Thursday, May 19               Pontiacs 15             Six Nations 11

The Pontiacs first game of the season was an exciting come from behind win in a slugfest as the Six Nations Storm came out flying with a 9 to 0 lead in the second inning.  The Pontiacs responded in the third with 5 runs and then continued the comeback until the 8th when they pushed across 5 runs to take the lead and eventually win the game 15 to 11.  Riekie Dutcher led at the plate scoring 3 times and going 4 for 5 at the plate with 4 rbi’s.  Dawn Vanderhorst pitched the win.

Thursday, May 26               Pontiacs 19             Glanbrook Jrs.  1

Lori Horvath pitched the 19 to 1 win over the Glanbrook Jrs.  Liz Verbeem led at the plate scoring 4 times and going 5 for 5.  Krissy Sebastian was also helping the cause going 4 for 5 with 2 rbi’s and scoring once.

Tuesday, May 31st             Pontiacs 7               Grimsby 6

Lori Horvath took the mound for the extra inning 7 to 6 win over the Grimsby Intermediates.  Catherine Lawrence led at the plate going 3 for 5 and scoring once with 2 rbi’s., which included the key overtime winning run.  Kristy Freshwater also had a good day at the plate going 3 for 4 with a triple and scoring once.

Monday, June 6th                Pontiacs 15             Clarkson 1

Dianne Trask pitched the 15 to 1 win against the Clarkson Intermediate and helped her own cause with a 2 rbi double and scoring once.  Riekie Dutcher led at the plate going 3 for 4 and scoring three times with one home run.  Johanna Malisani also helped the cause scoring twice and having 5 rbi’s going 3 for 5 at the plate.

Tuesday, June 7th               Pontiacs 8               Glanbrook Lions  1

Hamilton Pontiacs defeated the Glanbrook Lions 8 to 1 behind the hitting of Johanna Malisani (3 for 4 at the plate with 2 rbi’s), Riekie Dutcher 2 for 4 with 2 rbi’s and a triple and a double, and Jen Calbeck 2 for 4 at the plate with 3 rbi’s and a homerun.  Lori Horvath pitched the win.

Tuesday, June 14               Pontiacs 18             Lady J’s  2

Dawn Vanderhorst pitched the 18 to 2 win against the Fisherville Lady J’s and also helped her cause going 2 for 3 and scoring 3 times.  Kathy Sitak also helped at the plate with a triple and going 3 for 4.  Lori Kostur also scored 3 times and went 3 for 3 plus a walk.  Debbie Carter was 3 for 4 with a double and scoring 3 times.

Thursday, June 16              Pontiacs 6               Hamilton Hurricanes 4

Lori Horvath pitched the 6 to 4 win against the Hamilton Juniors, striking out 3.  Riekie Dutcher helped the cause at the plate going 4 for 4 and scoring twice.  Dawn Vanderhorst also went 3 for 4, scored once and had 2 rbi’s.

Dianne Trask pitched the 7 to 2 win over the Hamilton Hurricanes going 2 for 2 at the plate with 3 rbi’s.  Riekie Dutcher also helped the cause going 3 for 3 and scoring twice with Catherine Lawrence going 2 for 3 and scoring twice.

Monday, June 27                Pontiacs 7               Ohsweken Mohawks 1

Lori Horvath pitched the win going 2 for 4 at the plate and scoring once as the Pontiacs defeated the Ohsweken Mohawks 7 to 1.  Debbie carter was 3 for 3 and scored once with Christine Bassett also going 2 for 3 at the plate.

Tuesday, June 28               Pontiacs 4               Clarkson 10

Pontiacs took their first loss in league play versus the Clarkson Intermediates by a score of 10 to 4.  Clarkson rallied with 6 runs in the 4th inning and the Pontiacs were unable to recover.  Bekki Longboat took the loss with Riekie Dutcher providing the main bats going 3 for 4 at the plate and scoring twice.  Dawn Vanderhorst also aided the run cause by going 2 for 4 and scoring once.

Dawn Vanderhorst pitched the shutout win against the Grimsby Intermediates with 4 strikeouts and going 2 for 4 at the plate and scoring once.  Riekie Dutcher went 2 for 3 at the plate with one walk and scored 3 times.   Johanna Malisani and Debbie Carter were each 2 for 4 at the plate.

Wednesday July 6               Pontiacs 14             Port Colborne 2

Dianne Trask pitched the 14 to 2 win against the Port Colborne Comettes going 2 for 3 at the plate and scoring once to help her own cause.  Riekie Dutcher was 4 for 5 at the plate scoring 4 times with Liz Verbeem going 4 for 5 and scoring twice.  Kristy Freshwater also had a good day at the plate going 3 for 4 and scoring twice.

Lori Horvath took the second loss of the season for the Pontiacs as they were defeated 6 to 5 by St. Catharines Intermediates.  Pam Wainwright led at the plate going 2 for 2 with a walk and scoring once.  Catherine Lawrence helped the cause going 2 for 4 and scoring once.

Lori Horvath pitched the 9 to 4 win against the Glanbrook Juniors as she threw 9 strikeouts and gave up 6 hits and 3 walks.  Lori also helped her cause at the plate going 3 for 4.  Riekie Dutcher led at the plate scoring twice with a 2 run home run and a single and a double going 3 for 4 at the plate.

Dianne Trask pitched the 16 to 5 win against the Townsend Braves by striking out 2 and giving up 7 hits and 1 walk.  Riekie Dutcher led at the plate with going 5 for 5 with 2 home runs, 5 rbi’s and scoring 5 times.  Lori Kostur also helped the cause going 4 for 5 with 3 runs scored and 2 rbi’s.  Kristy Freshwater also had a good day at the plate going 3 for 4 and scoring twice.

HAMILTON PONTIACS – TRI-COUNTY LEAGUE PLAYOFF CHAMPIONS 2005

 

The Hamilton Pontiacs repeated as Tri-County League Playoff Champions for 2005 in a tournament held in Townsend on the weekend of August 27th and 28th.  The Pontiacs went through the weekend undefeated in double-knockout play. 

 

In the first game, the Pontiacs came out strong in the first inning against the Glanbrook Juniors scoring 5 times to take a quick lead and did not look back winning 11 to 2.  Dianne Trask pitched the win giving up 8 walks, 3 hits and striking out 6 batters while going 2 for 3 at the plate and scoring once.  Jen Calbeck led at the plate going 4 for 4 and scoring 3 times.  Debbie carter also had a good day at the plate going 2 for 2 with 5 rbi’s. 

 

In the next game of the weekend, the Pontiacs defeated the Fisherville Fossils 7 to 1 behind the pitching of Lori Horvath.  Lori went 2 for 3 at the plate with one walk and scored once while giving up only 3 hits in the contest along with 0 walks and 5 strikeouts.  Liz Verbeem led at the plate going 3 for 4 and scoring twice with Jen Calbeck and Catherine Lawrence going 2 for 4.  Lori Kostur was also a key to the offence going 2 for 3 with one walk and one run scored.

 

In the semi-finals, the Pontiacs faced the hometown rival Hamilton Hurricanes and defeated them 5 to 2 with Dawn Vanderhorst pitching the win.  Kristy Freshwater led at the plate going 2 for 3 with one run scored and Lori Kostur again helped at the plate going 1 for 3 with one walk and scoring a key run.  Kristy Pearce also helped at the plate going 2 for 3 and scoring once.

 

In the finals, the Pontiacs had a 8 run third inning to break the game wide-open against the Clarkson Scarletts and won 11 to 1 in 5 innings.  Lori Horvath pitched the win and contributed three runs and 2 rbi’s.   Lori Kostur and Liz Verbeem each contributed going 3 for 4 and scoring once.   Christine Bassett was also 2 for 3 and scored once.
