HAMILTON PONTIACS
WIN THE TRI-COUNTY
LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Hamilton Pontiacs took
home the Tri-county League Championship in a weekend tournament which faced the
challenges of rain held on Saturday, August 16th and Sunday, August
17th in Townsend. The Pontiacs received a bye
in the first round for finishing first in the overall League standings for the
year.
Their first game of the day
against the Townsend Intermediates was a 9
to 3 win behind the pitching of Jenny
Kells. Kris Gordon led
the Pontiacs at
the plate scoring 3 times and going 3 for 4 at the plate. Kathy Sitak also helped the cause scoring
once and going 2 for 4 at the plate. Kira Waghorn pitched in with
2 hits and scoring once.
The next game was delayed
until 7:10 p.m. when the Pontiacs came up against
the St. Catharines Intermediates. Amanda
Marsh pitched the 3 to 0 win giving up 5 hits with 4 strikeouts. Riekie Dutcher
led at the plate going 3 for 3 with a triple and scoring twice. Lori Kostur
helped the cause scoring the other run.
The final game of the
tournament saw the Pontiacs
face the St. Catharines Intermediates and behind the pitching of Amanda Marsh
defeated the Intermediates 9 to 1 to take the Championship. Lori Martin led at the plate going 4 for 4
and scoring twice. Kris Gordon, Kira Waghorn, Dianne Trask and Amanda Marsh also added at the
plate getting two hits each.
