St. Catharines Ladies Softball Invitational Tournament:
The Hamilton Pontiacs
finished in first place in the round robin portion of the St. Catharines
Invitational Tournament on the weekend and were defeated in the semi-finals by
the Hamilton Hurricanes by a score of 6 to 3.
In the first game of the
round robin, the Pontiacs
faced the Clarkson Scarletts and, behind the combined pitching of Amanda Marsh
and Dawn Vanderhorst, won 11 to
4. Kris Gordon led at the plate going 4 for 4 and scoring 3 times with Krissy Sebastian also adding to the totals by going
2 for 2 with a walk and scoring once with 2 rbi's. Kira Waghorn
went 2 for 4 at the plate and scored once.
In the second game, Dawn Vanderhorst pitched a 5 to 1 win against
Palmerston. Dawn Vanderhorst
helped her own causing going 4 for 4 at the plate with 1 rbi and Kira Waghorn supplied the majority of the runs in
the top of the 7th inning with a 3 run triple.
Kelly Litwiller, Lori Kostur
and Kelly Litwiller scored three of the runs in the 7th.
The next game of the
series, the Pontiacs
faced the Windor Expos and Amanda Marsh and Dawn
Vanderhorst again combined for the tied score of 3 to
3. Liz Verbeem led at the plate going 3 for 3 and scoring the games
opening run. Riekie Dutcher
also helped the cause homering and doubling in the third run.
In the final game of the
round robin, the Pontiacs
defeated the Hamilton Hurricanes behind the shutout pitching of
Dianne Trask. Lori Kostur
led at the plate scoring twice and with one double.
In the semi-finals, the Pontiacs again came
against their fellow home-town team and were defeated 6 to 3. Jenny
Kells took the loss with the team giving up 7 errors in the
loss. Riekie Dutcher, Kris
Gordon, and Christine Bassett all
had three hit games in the loss.
