NEWMARKET STINGERS SKINS TOURNAMENT
The Hamilton Pontiacs had a
successful tournament in Newmarket
coming away with 2 wins and 1 loss in the Skins Tournament.
In the first game, Amanda
Marsh pitched the shutout with 7 strikeouts, 1 hit and 1 walk defeating Oakridges Intermediates 8 to 0. Lori Kostur
led the way at the plate going 3 for 3 and scoring twice. Kelly Litwiller
similarly went 3 for 3 and scored once during the game. Krissy Sebastian
also helped at the plate going 2 for 3 with 2 rbi’s.
The next game placed the Pontiacs against the
Clarkson Juniors. Dawn
Vanderhorst took the mound and pitched a one hitter with 6
strikeouts to get the 9 to 1 win. Dianne Trask led at the plate going 2 for 4 and
scoring twice. Christine
Bassett also helped the cause going 2 for 3 and scoring
once. Riekie
Dutcher went 3 for 4 with a single, double and triple and
scored twice.
The round robin was
shortened due to a team withdrawing from the pool in which the Pontiacs played so they progressed into the
playoffs for a later start. Jenny Kells took the mound and pitched a two hitter
with 2 strikeouts. The game was closely
contested with the Pontiacs placing runners in scoring position in the first
inning only and the Pickering Juniors scoring their only run in the bottom of
the 6th inning to win the game.
