AUNT
ROSIE’S INTERNATIONAL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT – AMHERST, NEW YORK
The Hamilton Pontiacs lost
the battle with the rain as they were progressing into the playoff round during
their first trip to the Aunt Rosie’s International Invitational Tournament held
in Amherst, New York.
The tournament continued without the Pontiacs as they exited when the diamonds
became unplayable and it looked like the rain was not going away.
The tournament began on a
positive note with the Pontiacs
defeating the Rochester Americans 8 to 3 in their first game. Jenny Kells
pitched the win having 4 strikeouts and giving up 6 hits. Kris Gordon led at the plate scoring twice on
3 hits which included two triples. Krissy Sebastian, Lori
Kostur and Erin Forman also scored runs for the Pontiacs.
In the second game of the
day, the Pontiacs
faced Syracuse
and, behind the 4 for 4 batting of Riekie Dutcher (who scored 4 runs), defeated them 8
to 1. Dawn
Vanderhorst pitched the win striking out 9 and giving up 3
hits. Kris Gordon again was hot at the
plate going 3 for 4 and scoring twice. Lori Kostur and Kira
Waghorn also singled during the game.
In the third game, the Pontiacs were defeated by
Western New York by a score of 8 to 4. Jenny Kells
took the loss on the mound with Kris Gordon and Erin Forman going 2 for 2 at
the plate and Christine Bassett
going 2 for 3.
In the fourth game of the
tournament, the Pontiacs
defeated the Amherst Lightning Gold by a score of 4 to 3 behind the pitching of
Dawn Vanderhorst. Lori Kostur,
Krissy Sebastian, Erin Forman and Riekie Dutcher accounted for the four Pontiac runs with Erin hitting a key 2 run triple in the top of the 5th
to give the Pontiacs
the lead.
The Pontiacs were then set to play their playoff
round on Sunday when the rains came and games were delayed for 4 hours until
the grounds could be assessed. Further
rains occurred and, given time of day and distance to travel, the Pontiacs opted to decline
to continue in the tournament.
