BIOLOGY NOTES

Teachers Page

****************EDIT THE FOLLOWING TEXT TO CHANGE MAIN PAGE TEXT Welcome to the teachers section of the site. Note by Sinclair Dyer and Ian Buchanan.

Notes about contents

Although many lessons contain accompanying Powerpoint OHPs this task got too large and we have had to give references to hand drawn OHPs (especially in early lessons).

The textbook referred to in such cases is Essential Cell Biology by Alberts et al (ISBN 0-8153-2971-7). The original book in no longer published but version 2 is now available. The best place to order this book from is Kelvin Books in Glasgow.

This year each student were bought a pack of OHP pens and acetates. In lessons with lots of hand drawn OHPs each student was given the task of producing one or two. The results were impressive!

Although lessons are intended to match real time they may be out e.g. lesson 15 is big, lesson 16 is small and lesson 19 is massive and may take you three periods. We can only suggest looking ahead a bit and doing a bit of planning.

The Rasmol programme is excellent. Students should open the executive programme and then either drag and drop their files or browse for them. It is possible to zoom in and out by holding down the Shift key , left hand button of your mouse and moving your mouse back and forward.

The simplest way to use web site links if they are not live is to
  • Highlight them
  • Press Ctrl and C on your keyboard
  • Log onto the Internet
  • Highlight the address at the top
  • Press Ctrl and V on your keyboard
  • Press Return
If you want to change the lesson content for any files re-save the file by
  • Select file
  • Select save as
  • Give the file a new name its now yours to alter
We would be grateful for any suggested additions, deletions or alterations and hope that this package makes your Molecular Biology section more interesting.

Regards,

Sinclair and Ian.
