Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa)
Tall, thorny shrub, with lots of branches and black or dark brown twigs ending in a sharp spike. Leaves small, oval and toothed. Flowers white, single but in dense clusters, appearing before the leaves; March-May. Fruit a bluish-black berry, known as the sloe.

One found so far, deep in woods.
