BAGH

From the end of seventeenth Century up to 1837 A.D. Poonch was ruled by the Muslim Rajas of Loran. It then fell in to the hands of Raja Fiaz Talab Khan of Rahuri. In 1846, this area was handed over to Maharaja Gulab Singh under the treaty of Amritsar. Before this transfer, Poonch was considered a district of Lahore. Maharaja Gulab Singh handed over Poonch and some other areas to his nephews, Jawahar singh and Moti Singh, with the condition that they would not make any administrative changes without the consent of Maharaja of Kashmir. Poonch was annexed and converted in to a Jagir by Maharaja Hari Singh in 1935-36 by the deposing Raja establish their rule in Poonch. In 1947 when Pakistan came in to being, the people of Poonch started on armed struggle afainst the Dogra and Indian Forces. Some sports of tourists interest of these districts are:

This fascinating and charming place of Distric Bagh is 24 kilometeres from Kohala, the gateway of Azad Kashmir, and 132 kilometers from Islamabad, the Capital of Pakistan. Located at an altitude of 1676 meters, Dhirkote possesses an extremely pleasant and healthy climate. The places is very popular among the people as a tourist resort mainly due to easy accass, suitable altitude and beautiful landscape.

In the heart of the calm and quiet Deodar and Kail mixed forest, there is a posh Forest Rest House, three tourist huts and one log hut which are greatly sought after by tourists in summer.

          Dhirkot is linked with Kohala by a black-top road. Direct transport services are available from Rawalpindi(Pak) and Muazaffarabad(AJK). There is a bazaar on top of the hill which provides essential commodities. Education, medical, banking, telephone, telegraph and Internet facilities are also available here.

From Dhirkot 6 kilometers ahead, this spot is situated at an altitude of 2000 meters from sea level. It is worth seeing from the tourist point of view as well as its historical background. On 23rd August 1947 the Mujahideen-e-Azadi got united at this place, aiming to get independence from India. Considering its tourist importance the Azad Jammu Kashmir Government has constructed more than half dozen huts for the visitors.

Suddhan Gally

Suddhan Gally, located at a height of 2134 meters, links Chikar with Bagh, a town in the Bagh Disrict. This scenic spot also serves as a based for those interested in hiking / trekking to the nearby 3045 meters high mountain, GANGA CHOTI. This place is also linked with Chikar by a medalled road. Over 20 buses ply daily between Muzaffarabad and Chinari while 4 buses ply between Muzaffarabad and Bagh.

Las Danna

 

From Bagh, a 15 kilometers long mettalled road leads to Las Danna, a place of captivating scenes and natural beauty. A tourist rest house is available for accommodation.
