In this, the first Star Trek Movie, Captain Kirk re-assumes command of the Enterprise, and is sent on a mission to intercept a huge mechanical device in space, which calls itself V'Ger.
The crew of the Enterprise penetrate the device, and reach the heart of the beast. It turns out that the "V'Ger" device is really the old space-probe Voyager 6, which was missing in space for quite some time.
