Silent Running Engines |
| Commissioned solely for use on the Silent Shade, the Silent Running Engines, or SRE system for short, is an attempt to mask the high-energy output of SSD engines. Currently there are two versions. The simpler version relies on several energy recyclers to reduce the amount of waste energy expelled to better hide the Shade�s movement. This method still produces a tiny signature and reduces the speed of the ship to a crawl. However, when linked in conjunction with the deception cloak, the sensor jammers easily mask this small output. There is also a chance that an energy buildup could destroy the engines. Another system must be in place to bleed this excess energy away into special storage tanks. A somewhat more impractical and ambitious version focuses on developing an accelerator that uses the universe�s natural electromagnetic field to propel a ship. This method is still in development due to its highly theoretical nature. |
