Power Trooper Armor

Stormtrooper armor is embarrassingly ineffective. The only good it does is against standard melee weapons. It might provide a little protection against blaster fire, but in many cases it simply is not enough. One of the last orders Kasr gave to his think-tank before he was put on trial was to develop trooper armor capable of withstanding small arms fire. And, in preparation for his Jedi trooper project, he wanted the armor to be able to withstand the dreaded lightsaber.

The order was no small task and it took his think-tank almost the entire duration of Kasrs stay in the Jorzan prison to accomplish it. The end result is the power trooper armor.

The armor is bulkier than standard stormtrooper armor to make room for a miniature cooling-system that shunts excess heat, such as that found from energy weapon projectiles, through microscopic holes that cover the suit. In addition, the armor is laced with cortosis ore to stop lightsaber blades.

Because cortosis ore isnt very durable, it had to be integrated with the standard armor elements during production, rather than just constructing the entire suit out of cortosis. This translates to a lightsaber being able to make a visible gash in the armor before it shuts off, usually in the area of about one and a half centimeters into the armor. Successive strikes in the same place will continue to dig deeper.

The cooling system is able to handle the small arms fire of blasters and other similar weapons, but the current version cant deal with shots from more high-powered artillery such as an E-web blaster.

In addition, it has been discovered that by shunting the heat from the blaster shots, the temperature around the power trooper will rise to searing levels depending on how long he stays in one spot. The cooling system itself can handle this rise in temperature, keeping the soldier inside the armor comfortable, but normal troops wont be able to handle this increase without being scalded. Instead of being seen as a flaw, it is looked upon as an anti-personnel feature.

The power armor is very expensive and time consuming to make, which is why there are so few power troopers at Oremin. Only a few squads of highly trained troopers exist. Kasr, himself, uses two power troopers as his personal bodyguards. The armor is dyed a deep blue to distinguish it further from regular stormtrooper armor.
