High Gravity Mining Suit

Jesika Doljian

The planet Oremin, while filled with numerous valuable resources, also has an extremely high rate of gravity. Any normal Human foolish enough to set foot on the planet without some means to combat the gravity would be crushed by their own weight. For this reason, it is necessary for the majority of Oremins mining operation on planet to be preformed by heavy-labor droids.

Still, it cant all be done by droids. Most high-g droids dont have the intelligence required to perform more delicate operations. And, due to the lack of readily available facilities at Oremin, detaining prisoners can be problematic. The obvious solution is to ship them down to the planet and force them to do heavy labor. So, in order to keep his mining operations running smoothly, Kasr commissioned the development of the high gravity mining suit, or HGS for short.

The suit is essentially a large droid, about two meters tall, that can house a single occupant inside. Once the suit is sealed, an internal battery can keep the suit running for up to two hours. For longer time periods, a special battery can be attached to the back of the HGS, or a high tensile cable can be connected from the suit to a special mobile generator.

Inside of the HGS is everything a miner will need to survive for long periods of time. The suit houses a modest gravity compensator that reduces the pull of Oremins enormous gravity to tolerable limits. It is also equipped with an air recycling system, as there is no breathable atmosphere on Oremin. The built-in hand tools can be interchanged, depending on the work, at designated mining stations.

One of the common misconceptions about the HGS is that it will allow one to move freely on the surface. In fact, it takes training to be able to move unaided in the high gravity. Because of the enormous strain that is put on the body, and the heart especially, it is said that being sent to Oremins surface is akin to a slow death sentence, even with the aid of the HGS.
