Energy Absorbing Armor

Having impervious armor is the dream of every military commander. For Kasr, the first step was developing Energy Absorbing Armor (EAA); similar to what is used by his power troopers except on a capital ship scale. The idea, simply enough, is for specialized microcircuitry to quickly absorb and shunt the destructive energy caused by energy-class weapons.

What was developed were armor plates capable of absorbing the energy of standard turbolasers on down. Despite the advantageous idea and success in implementing it, the material has several unavoidable flaws.

First, in order to function properly, each plate of EAA needs to draw an inordinate amount of power from the reactor of whatever it is attached to. This kind of power drain can quickly add up.

Second, while the EAA plates can absorb the energy from single shots, concentrated attacks can overwhelm the circuits in the plates and turn them useless.

Lastly, and perhaps most telling, is that the EAA plates have no defense against warhead-class weapons.

With all of these considerations in mind, Kasr has scaled back the distribution of the EAA plates to only cover the most sensitive areas of whatever they are attached too. Underneath the EAA plates is another layer of normal destroyer-class armor to help reinforce the defenses.

Currently, only Kasrs SSD, the Silent Shade, is slated to make partial use of the EAA plates. However, should they be refined for more practical use, the EAA plates may be employed on other warships.
