Deception Cloak

This is not a true cloaking device, but actually two separate systems working in tandem to create the illusion of a cloak. Kasr saw the cloaking device as simply too unfeasible to use on warships and demanded an alternative from his think-tank. The result is sophisticated combination of holographic imagers and powerful sensor jammers.

It is one of the principle technologies that Oremin runs on to maintain its secrecy.

The imagers, placed all along the hull of a ship or a similar object, project an ever-changing view of the space around it to blend in with its environment. The jammers, instead of simply blocking incoming sensor readings, feed back the normal background readings of that area of space to enemy ships.

The advantages of this system are twofold. First, because the technology used is fairly standard it is relatively easy and inexpensive to procure should parts need to be replaced. Secondly, the jammers only block incoming sensor readings, which allows whatever is employing the deception cloak to see through its veil, unlike with a standard cloak.

It does have its weaknesses, however.

If too much damage is dealt to either system, the deception cloak as a whole becomes useless. Should the holoprojectors fail, the object would be visible to the naked eye. Should the jammers fail, enemy sensors would be able to detect the object in question, making the image pointless.

Also, the imagers work best on stationary objects. They do adjust to changing scenery, but it isnt an instant change. Sharp-eyed enemies will be able to see a slight ripple in space as the imagers adjust. The slower a ship goes, the less noticeable this effect is, but it is still present. In addition, should an object employing the deception cloak become surrounded, the illusion would soon become apparent.
