Ray: If asked to play Michael again, would you try a new approach to play him or would you play him the same way as you did in H2? Dick:I'm crippled and 63 years old now. I don't think they would ask me but..I'd play it the same as before. Ray: Is there any film you have worked on that you wish you hadnt? Dick: Yes. "Hots" Ray: In your oppinion, what is it about Halloween that has made the series so successful and why has the franchise survived almost 30 years? Dick: I think it's because Carpenter brought back the horror film genre with it and the boogeyman plays to all of our childhood fears. Ray:If you could go back in time and do another film or stunt over, which film/stunt would you choose? Dick: Some of the car stunts in "Escape from New York". They could have been so much better. Ray: In H1, a stuntman was not used to play The Shape but in the rest of the films, a stuntman has gotten the role. Why do you think this is? Dick: One of the five people who wore the mask in H1 was a stuntman named Jim Winburn (the balcony fall). Nick Castle got screen credit, I believe, because he and John C. went to film school together and were buddies as well as he probably wore the mask more than anyone else. Ray:Any tips on how to become a stuntman? What type of training is required? Dick: The chances of working in films or TV as a stuntperson gets slimmer every day. Reason being...Computer Graphics. Why pay a stuntperson residuals into perpetuity for their work when you can CG it into the film and only pay once. The producer sticks that much more in his pocket every time it's shown. Example: I did Jaws in 70 something. I get as much as $200.00 in residuals every time it's shown. Check it out. That's a lot of money over 25 + years. Ray: How do you feel about the series new approach, "ditching" the 4,5 and 6 storylines? Dick: Since I'm not the fan that most of you are...I don't really care. The story lines are secondary to me. I just want the scare. I could care less about the "Thorn" or whatever it is. Ray:How do you feel about the whole "slasher genre" and where do you think Horror films are headed today? Dick: I don't care for "Slasher" films like Jason etc. When I did Halloween ll & lll it was a job just like any other but that was it. I had no idea until about 5 years ago that there was a fan base for them. Thanks to Don Shanks (H5) I found out and I really enjoy meeting the fans. Ray:Has appearing in Halloween 2 and 3 affected your life in anyway? What do you think you would be doing now if you had not played Michael Myers? Dick: Oh yes. As I just said. I really enjoy doing the conventions and interacting with the people. I don't know what I'd be doing had I not done them. Ray: Finally, any comments to the fans who will read this interview? Dick:You have to know that if I didn't enjoy the whole thing you wouldn't get personal responses from me. I have made some good friends from having the website and doing the cons. I just wish the bickering over "was there two masks or one" or "I make a better mask than yours" etc. would stop. Does it really matter in the big picture. Will God really judge us on who's right?
I would personally like to thank Mr. Dick Warlock once again for taking the time out of his schedule to sit down and answer these questions. Your contribution to the Halloween legacy and to this site are very greatly and deeply appreciated!
