| THE PITCHFORK |
| The Pitchfork is commonly associated with the devil, and the devil is commonly associated with Halloween. However the pitchfork is nothing more than a "trident". The Trident was used by various cultures as a symbol of fertility. Greek mythology has shown the Pagan gods Poseidon and Neptune carrying the trident. The association with the trident and the devil can be dated back to early Christianity when the Christian Church attempted to squash the idea of fertility. Celtic myth once indicated that the Trident was the key to "Holy Door". Early Christians gave way to the trident being the symbol of the devil to represnt sexual depravity. However the Trident, or Pitchfork as it is better known, is a symbol of today's Harvests, they are often decorated with leaves or dried corn, even ribbons depending on the culture. In our humble opinion here at Halloweenlords, the pitchfork is a symbol of fertility and is nothing to fear or run away from. (Unless you happen to be at the wrong end of one by some angry realtive...that is a different story) |

Beginning with the candles used in ceremonies which were orange in color, and the black cloaks or covers that were laid across the caskets of the dead. These ceremonies gave way to the Black and Orange colors that are now associated with Halloween all Over the world. |
