| ERIC HIERS: The movie opens right at the end of the original and continues the story with Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasance) hot on the trail on Michael Myers. Elsewhere, Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is taken to the local hospital and treated. Soon Michael finds his way to the hospital and starts to off the night shift one by one, trying to find Laurie. Loomis soon learns the secret of why Michael is bent on killing Laurie and races to the hospital to save her. There, Loomis and Laurie fight Michael in the explosive final act. This sequel lacks the mastery of Carpenter (who only writes, produces, and scores this installment), but compared to the majority of the other sequels and the Halloween rip-offs, it is good. Good ending that could have left the series done. *** RANK: 4 out of 8 DEREK SHARP: Another key chapter to the series, this film explains Michael's connection to Laurie Strode and creates the tension to come between Loomis and Michael. Although many fans dislike this chapter, it is a must see since it explains many of the main connections, that are long lasting throughout the series. While it is slow it is one of the more smart horror films but Carpenter is no longer in the director's seat. Still, it's worth the look. |
