Yeah. Piper agreed, and hugged her sister, What else is in the box? she asked, pulling away.
This. Lily said, taking out a small photo album, Look, it says Our Memories. on the front.
Lets see. Lexi said, scooting closer to Lily. Allie and Piper leaned forward so they could see.
Lily opened the book, Ooh, the first picture is of our grandmas in costumes. Whos who, though, you cant really see in the picture.
Lexi frowned, Grandma Kennedi isnt even in there. That one must be Madison. she said, pointing to a girl in a cat costume, And that has to be Grandma Siobhan, she said pointing to a girl in a candy corn costume, We still have that costume.
The redhead is Grandma Alyson. Allie pointed out, Not sure what her costume is, though.
So its Grandma Tara in the butterfly getup. Cute! Lily exclaimed.
Lexi flipped to the next page, Oh, my God, its you guys! she exclaimed. This picture was a clearer one of Madison, Tara, Alyson, and Siobhan in bathing suits, looking ready to jump in the pool. Lexi looked from her friends to the picture, and sure enough Allie and Piper were the spitting images of Alyson and Lily was a very close lookalike to Tara.
We really look that alike? Piper asked, looking at the photo closely.
Oh, yeah, very scary resemblance. Lexi assured her.
You look a little like your grandma Siobhan. Allie observed.
Yeah, a little except her eyes are darker and narrower, and her skins darker. Lily said, looking closely.
But the hair! And that nose! Its you! Allie exclaimed.
The girls flipped slowly through the book, exclaiming over the pictures. Kennedi suddenly appeared on one page, there were several pictures of who they assumed had been Annie, and sadly, Madison suddenly disappeared. They watched as their grandmothers got older, graduated high school, graduated college, got married, and had children. The last picture completely took their breaths away.
Aww. Allie was the only one who spoke, That has to be the best picture I have ever seen.
Its so sweet! Lexi agreed, See theres baby me on Grandma Kennedis lap, with Grandma Siobhan next to us, baby Lily with Tara, and really tiny babies Allie and Piper with their Grandma Ally! she squealed with contentment.
We were so cute! Piper said, and poked the picture with one finger, And you can already see we have bright shocks of red hair and were only like a few days old!
One day old. Allie corrected her sister, See the date? Its the same as on the letters. April 10, 2043.
I miss my grandma. Lily said, quietly.
Me too. Lexi agreed, and pulled her friend in a hug.
Okay, sis, there anything else? Allie asked, peering into the box.
Just the bracelets. Piper said, pulling them out, These are friendship bracelets.
One for each of the five. Lily, I guess you get Taras. Its got her name on it. Allie said, handing the bracelet to her friend, who quickly slipped it on. It was a little big, but didnt look as if it would slip off.
Theres two for Lexi, you get both Kennedis and Siobhans because theyre your grandmothers. Piper said, handing her friend the bracelets, What about Grandma Allys? she asked her sister.
You may have it. Allie said, gracefully, Ill take Madisons.
Piper smiled, Thanks, sweetie. she said, slipping the bracelet on her wrist. It fit perfectly. She moved the beads so they were facing up and read, Alyson on it. All five bracelets were identical, made with rainbow thread.
When do you think they made these? Lily asked suddenly, not looking up from her bracelet until she was on the last word of the sentence.
Im not sure. It must have been sometime in between meeting Kennedi and when Madison died. Piper deduced.
I know when they made them. Lexi said, suddenly, looking at the inner side, Look inside the bracelet.
A, T, K, S, & M. BFF 8/10/2002. Allie read out loud, They made them the summer before their senior year. she concluded.
That was right before all the changes. Alyson and Madison got boyfriends, and my Grandma Siobhan nearly got anorexia. Lexi explained.
Anorexia? Really? When did they tell you that? Piper asked.
When I was twelve. They told me Id know the time to tell you guys. Lexi explained.
Oh, thats sad. Lily said, shortly. Shed picked up her tea mug and looked like she was trying to use it to hide her tears.
Lily, honey? Piper asked. She quickly took the tea away from Lily and pulled her friend towards her, Let it out, its okay. At those words, the dam broke. Lily began crying, hard, clutching onto Piper for comfort, Oh, sweetie. Piper murmured into Lilys hair, kissing the top of her head. Lexi shifted over on the bed and put her arms around her friends, and Allie followed suit. They sat there for a few minutes, just letting Lily cry.
It hurts! Lily sobbed, her voice muffled.
I know, sweetie, I know. Piper soothed, rubbing her friends back. Lily let herself cry a few moments more before hiccupping, and pulling back.
Grandma Tara wasnt too much older than me when her grandma died. Lily said in a soft voice.
She wasnt? Allie asked curiously.
Yeah, she was just barely seventeen when her grandma died in a car accident. Lily said, her voice returning to its normal tone.
Its sad when you lose someone. Lexi sympathized.
Lilys eyes filled with tears again, I dont ever want you guys to die, ever.
Lexi took Lilys hand and stroked it gently between her fingers, We wont. Not for a very, very long time, I promise.
O-Okay. Lily nodded, and smiled at her friends, I love you guys.
We love you, too! Allie said, and Piper and Lexi nodded in agreement.
There was a knock at the door again, Come in! Lily called out.
Gregory opened the door, If you girls want to come get some supper, Lilys mom has made some chicken marbella for us. You guys can eat in here if you want. He offered.
Thanks daddy, well be right down. Lily said, and her father left, keeping the door ajar. Lily stood up off the bed, closed the box, and set in on her dresser, Come on guys, well get something and then watch a movie while we eat. She said, cheerfully.
Okay! Piper said, echoing her cheerfulness, and she, Allie, and Lexi followed Lily down the stairs. Lily sighed as she led the way, looking back and smiling at her friends. She was go glad they were here for her.
