| Whatever about? Siobhan asked, leaning back against the headboard. You know what about. Kennedi said, not dropping the stern voice and look. Do you think I should dye my hair? Siobhan asked, looking over at Tara and Alyson. Siobhan, dont change the subject. Listen to Kennedi. Alyson said. Siobhan, what made you go and get drunk like that? Thats just not you. Kennedi asked her friend. I-I dont know. I-I guess I just wanted to have fun. You got a problem with me having fun? Siobhan asked, getting a little angry. Hey, when you speak to me like that, I do. Siobhan, that was not having fun. I know youre hurting, I am too, but drinking is not the answer to a problem. Kennedi tried to keep her voice calm. We want you to talk to us, Siobhan. We want to help. Tara said, softly. Well, I dont want to talk. You say you know how Im hurting, but you dont. I lost two of my absolute best friends. I almost didnt make it after I lost Annie, and losing Madison....its like theres this huge hole in my chest, and its just not getting any better. Guys, it hurts so much. I-I needed Madison, she was my rock, and I-I.....I just want her back! Siobhan started to cry. Syvanni. Kennedi said, reaching for her friend. I hate you! Siobhan yelled suddenly, looking at the ceiling, I hate you! You left me, and I hate you for it! Youre so stupid, you didnt tell anyone about your headaches! Maddi, I.....I need you back. I need you, I-Im all alone! Please come back, Maddi, I need you! Siobhan was sobbing, tears streaming down her cheeks. Kennedi made a move to hug her again, and this time Siobhan let her. She leaned into her friend and just sobbed. Alyson and Tara came over and hugged her too. After quite a bit of time, Kennedi pulled back, Siobhan, you are not all alone. You have me, you have Tara and Alyson, and Madison and Annie are still with you. Theyre in your heart, and are with you in spirit. All the time, they are with you. Kennedi said, holding both Siobhans hands in hers. You-you sure? Siobhan asked. Positive. Kennedi said, hugging Siobhan again. Siobhan relaxed against her friend, and didnt make any move to let go, I love you, Siobhan. she said, softly. I-I love you, too. Siobhans voice was a whisper as she buried her head into Kennedis shoulder, Im so glad youre my friend. Im glad, too, sweetie, Im glad, too. Kennedi said, soothingly, Hey, you want a donut? I went out and got some, theres strawberry-cinnamon. Kennedi offered. Siobhan nodded shakily, Y-Yes, please. she said, in a very soft whisper. Alyson got up and got the donut box off the bookcase where Kenni had set it, and opened it as she walked back to the beds, Ooh, lemon-filled chocolate! Youre my hero, Kennedi! she exclaimed. Did she get.... Tara began her question, but Alyson cut her off. Powdered sugar. Of course. Alyson handed her friend the donut, and then handed Siobhan the strawberry-cinnamon, Kennedi the chocolate roll, and took the lemon-filled chocolate for herself, Ohh, heavenly. she said, smiling at Siobhan, who smiled back. I love donuts. Tara said, after a few moments of silent chewing. Me too. Kennedi agreed, Hey, Syvanni, can I have a bite? No! Siobhan said, and stuck out her tongue, Its mine! Alyson giggled, Boy, Syvanni sure is possessive in the morning. she remarked. But if I let Kennedi have one bite, soon shell want a second and a third and pretty soon shes eaten half my donut. Siobhan pointed out. True. Tara grinned. I do not do that! Kennedi said, adamantly. Oh yes you do. Siobhan shot back and poked Kennedi in the side. Kennedi shrieked and lunged for Siobhan. No! No! Not while Ive got a donut! No! Siobhan shrieked. Alyson and Tara laughed and Kennedi pounced on Siobhan, who was trying to keep her donut aloft. * * * * * * Later in the afternoon, Alyson, Siobhan, Kennedi, and Tara made a visit to a place they frequented often. They walked slowly, Siobhan in the lead, and Alyson in the rear, in silence until they reached their destination. Siobhan knelt, placing several smooth pebbles on the top of the smooth stone, as it was Jewish custom. Kennedi, Tara, and Alyson followed her with fresh new flowers, as the old ones were getting shabby. They arranged the items and then stayed there in silence, each kneeling, looking at the grave of their best friend. Siobhan lay her head on Kennedis shoulder, and she put her arms around Siobhan in comfort, not looking away from the stone that bore Madisons name. I miss you, Madison. Siobhan said, in a stage whisper.
