| Ahh, the sun feels nice. Tara Maclayne leaned back, her face upturned towards the sun shining down on her and her three best friends. Its probably going to be the last warm day of the year, so enjoy it. Alyson Almond pointed out, taking a sip of her chocolate mocha she was drinking. Can you believe were seniors now? Just a semester and a half and then.... Kennedi Limon trailed off. Freedom? Alyson suggested, uncertainty. Well, I wasnt going to say that exactly, but definitely freedom from having to go to classes all the time. Kennedi said, taking a sip of her strawberry shake. The girls were at an outdoor cafe just on the outskirts of the Edina State University campus. It was a beautiful mid-October day, and the temperature was at least 70 degrees. Definitely. Siobhan Arientero agreed, as she nodded. Speaking of classes, Syvanni, have you picked your final semester class yet? Whats it going to be; psychology, education, or law? Kennedi asked. Unlike the other three, Siobhan still hadnt chosen a major yet, but she did know she wanted to work alongside one of her friends. I dunno yet. Siobhan shrugged, and seemed to be avoiding her friends gaze. They knew she was upset about something, every time they talked about that topic, she got quiet. Is something the matter, sweetie? Tara asked, tentatively. No, its just....I havent decided yet, okay? Siobhan asked, a little forced. Okay, honey. Now drink your shake. Youve barely touched it. Tara said, pushing Siobhans glass towards her. Okay. Siobhan smiled, and took a sip. Tara, Alyson, and Kennedi shared a glance. They werent sure what Siobhan was concerned about, but they could tell it was something. Maybe she missed Madison. Their best friend, Madison Winters, had passed away almost two years earlier of a brain tumor, and Siobhan still seemed to be missing her an awful lot. * * * * * * * He parted the bushes with one hand as he stared through the binoculars at the four women sitting at a table on the sidewalk outside the cafe. His gaze darted from each as he picked out his next target. The tallest girl, the one with red hair, was too perky and talkative. She carried herself well, so naah, she wasnt vulnerable enough. He skipped over the girl with the dirty blonde hair, he wasnt much for girls with those looks. His gaze set on the final two girls, both with dark hair. One was dark-skinned, and the other light-skinned. He debated, but finally set his sights on the one. The dark hair, the dark eyes. She was perfect. Hed watch them some more until she was alone, and then make his move. * * * * * * * Kennedi entered the dorm room she shared with her friends to find Alyson and Siobhan there, but Tara wasnt around, Wheres Tara? she asked, setting her books from her afternoon class down. Shes at a presentation for fourth-year law students. Even though shes most likely not going to be a lawyer. That girl was never a good arguer. Alyson smiled at the thought. But law enforcement sounds good for her. I think Id feel very safe if one of us was a cop. Siobhan smiled, too. But can you imagine her wielding a gun and yelling at a crook? Kennedi asked, giggling as she sat on Siobhans bed next to her friend, who had books and papers spread out. Alyson was at the computer, and from the book by her side, Kennedi deduced she was working on her paper for her fourth-year education class. Sure. Its just a very funny image. Siobhan giggled, too, then frowned, Im hungry! she complained. What time does Tara get back? Kennedi asked, looking at her watch, which read ten minutes before five. The presentation ends at five, shell probably be back soon. We could go now, and bring her back something, Alyson said, and closed the book, Thats all for today. Ill come with you to get dinner. she offered, Siobhan youre staying right here. That test you have is very important. she ordered, and Siobhan stuck out her tongue, which Alyson returned. Be right back, Siobhan, okay? Kennedi said, and Siobhan nodded. Kennedi kissed her friends forehead and stood up. She and Alyson got their dinner cards and left the room, shutting the door, but not locking it, since Siobhan was in the room. * * * * * * * He had been watching for a week now, and figured the girl would never be left alone. He had found her dorm room easily, and hid in a dark corner watching the door. This morning, he saw all four of them leave together, then the redhead came rushing back almost an hour later, and then left again. They hadnt appeared for several hours until she came back, but she was with the redhead. It wouldnt work to take her now. He was getting a cramp, but he really wanted to take her today. He groaned as the other dark-haired girl entered the room. It was getting late, and they would all probably go down for dinner together as they always did. But, wait, two of them were leaving, the redhead and the other dark-haired girl. That meant she was left...all alone...and they didnt lock the door. He grinned evilly, and advanced, after he was sure her friends were out of sight. Back to the Homepage Onto Page Two |
