Trying to be a bulldog fan. You want to root for Mark Richt... But then you meet 'em. The Obnoxious Bulldog fan. The one that believes that the Bulldogs are the greatest thing since Moses parted the Red Sea. It would lead one to think that the Bulldogs have won several championships in a row and that all their players are drafted into the NFL.
WRONG. WRONG. WRONG. The Bulldogs were 10-3 last season. They only won one against ranked teams. Let’s see… They lost to Florida, Auburn at home, and West Virginia in Georgia. Not exactly competing for a national championship. They did beat South Carolina, Tennessee (5-6), Mississippi, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, and Kentucky to win the SEC East. Stunning competition, but hey they schedule difficult non-conference games. Such as Boise State, Louisiana Monroe, Western Kentucky, and UAB. It’s hard not to win against teams like that. (Source UGA Athletics) They cannot beat their two biggest rivals, Auburn and Florida. It’s kinda of a prerequisite that a team wins some games against good opponents to compete for a national title. They have not competed for a national title since 1980. And they still bring it up. And forget about them ever letting go of Hershel Walker. Give it up, it was 26 years ago. The current roster of the Bulldogs were not even conceived the last time Georgia won a NAITONAL TITLE. And by the way the Bulldogs are not even in the top ten when it comes to personnel in the NFL. They are behind Miami, Florida State, Tennessee, Michigan, Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, and USC. They did not even have a first round pick this year. Florida State and Ohio State led the pack. (Source ESPN) Please root for your team. Enjoy that Richt has brought back some respect for a program that couldn’t fire Ray Goff. Enjoy the wins; enjoy winning the SEC East as the second best team. Just don’t tell me that they are a perennial powerhouse. And please keep the inbreeding to a minimum. 2006-09-17 13:59:15 GMT

Can I get a Amen? I like Georgia, I hate Georgia fans. But after going to the Dome Sunday for the Falcons Game, I would rather deal with GA fans than endure another game in the Dome. Back up the trucks let's make it a parking lot. Artie Blank PLEASE don't put the new stadium downtown. Doraville will be just fine.

Ouch... so much hate in the room. You would think that the author of this article was a GT fan. Yes, we have had weak schedules since Dooley left for the main office. Don't blame the fans though. We have been aching to see the Dawgs face more tough opponents. Competition breeds success. At the same time, don't forget that USC, Texas, Ohio State, Florida State, and Oklahoma schedule weak teams in their season as well. While USC and Texas have had their way with them, just as Georgia did... Florida State was slapped in the face by Troy. Oklahoma was taken to the wire with UAB. Ohio State embarrased Texas, then nearly lost to Cincinnati.

As for our record last year, I agree with you. I don't recall anyone declaring that GA should be in the national title hunt, and if they werre... they are just simple-minded folk that walk around like zombies until football season begins. Florida has been a pain in our ass for the past decade. Until we can put a string of wins together in that series, I will not expect to see us in the hunt for anything more than the SEC title. Auburn and Tennessee do not concern me until game day. These games have gone back and forth. Yes, we lost to Auburn last year. The year before we took them down in their house though. Could someone remind me... when was the last time we lost to Tennessee? Five years ago, something like that? They did not go 5-6 until last year. In the end, I am not going to stand on top of the Peachtree Plaza and declare the Bulldogs are the greatest team of all time. I do feel that Richt is building a great system at a great school. In five years, he has two SEC championships. Give him ten years, and I could see the national championship coming back to UGA (If Louisville doesn't sneak in and run away with it.) --Mustang Mike

Typical of Georgia Fans, Mustang Mike can't point to one great season, he has to point at levels of mediocrity in multiple seasons to show how good his team is. I love Michigan but I will admit they can't beat Ohio State. By the way to all Georgia fans, unless you are on the field or are Larry Munson, you are not part of the team so the use of the word WE does not apply.

We are declaring that Georgia is a good team. They do not have the national stature that their fans believe in. Mark Richt will need 8 good years and 2 great years to accomplish that feat. Bulldog fans should be proud but don’t think that the program is better than Michigan, Ohio State, Miami, or Florida. Case in point a fan today on the radio stated that if Richt were to take a job with Miami that it would be a step back. You gotta be shittin me. They have won 5 NATIONAL championships since 1982 and been in 8 NATIONAL championship games. Oh yeah and they have the most NFL talent. Personally I hate the canes but Georgia’s program is not on their level. Come back to reality.

As far as FSU being taken to task by a weak non-conference match up. One need only to look and see that EVERY year they play a ranked Miami team and a ranked Florida team (who they consistently beat) as non-conference. Let’s see Miami, Florida, and Troy, compared to Western Kentucky, UAB, and Colorado. Not even close. Just realize that the Bulldogs are not the end all of college football. They do not have the national stature of several other teams. Mark Richt will eventually take them there so long as he does not go elsewhere. Remember Doonan and Goff were not that long ago. OUCH. --Your Moma Gruden

Let us get a few things straight.

1. The point made by this Georgia fan to FSU fan was that Florida State has'nt been very good the last COUPLE of years. This Georgia fan also said that Georgia has played better football over the last COUPLE of years than FSU. ( this is when FSU fan begins bashing Georgia even back to the mid 1980's.) 2. Who the hell does NOT know UGA has NOT competed for a national title in over 20 years. That fact was never in question. If anyone knows how disappointing UGA has been it is a Georgia fan. 3. As far as the personnel in the NFL I stand corrected.(thats what I deserve for getting my draft info from a dog fan.) 4. Check UGA and FSU's final rankings from 2002 thru 2005 ( aka. the last couple of years.) the evidence is undesputable. 5. If pointing out the fact that FSU has not played up to their standards gives one the obnoxious label so be it. --Georgia fan |
