Barra MacNeils
in Staten Island
Tullochgorum came next with those fingers flying on the fiddles. Kyle and Lucy just play a magnificent version of it, matched only by Natalie MacMasters.

Racket in the Attic
, with Lucy on the bodhran followed and I began to wonder if they were going to play any tunes from their new album.

When I was up in Cape Breton for the ECMAs, the newly expanded Barras played a sneak preview of the new album. Brothers Ryan and Boyd, who normally play for
Slainte Mhath, joined them in recording it. I thought it would be released by now. But Kyle told us wed have to wait till April. Oh well, cest la vie!

They did do an a capella song from the new CD though. I dont know the title of the song, but some of the words are:

Ha ree, ha roh, my bonnie wee girl
Will you come away my fair one?
Will you come away with me, love
To be my own, my rare one.

Sheumass deep bass voice rattled the walls. It was great!

At some point before or after this, they broke for intermission and I put the other envelopes at the respective mics.
We also heard:

Gaelic Mouth Music I wont even begin to try to spell it in Scots Gaelic. But Lucy did a great job. Both she and Kyle were nursing colds. You could hear that but no notes were missed and they both put everything they had into their performances.

Moni ahn dhu I have no idea how to spell that either, but thats the way it sounds. a lovely song meaning My Dark-Haired Girl. They all took turns at singing a verse and Kyle told us that it was about a boy courting a girl He cant play the fiddle, but he can write a sermon about his love. But her parents say NO.

The next tune was
The Longest Day, another from Racket in the Attic. Its actually more of a racket than Racket in the Attic! Stewart wrote a part of the tune for flute.

Lucy then sang
Caledonia, one of my familys favorite songs. Its a Scottish song, written by Dougie MacLean. Lucy was hoarse introducing it, but the hoarseness didnt show up in her singing.
