| Asteroid is our favorite buck. We have been using him in our herd since he was just old enough to reach the does. Most of the does in our herd at this time are his daughters, yet we still use him heavily. Asteroid has several daughters with milk stars and one or more champion legs. His daughters are consistent in type with good feet and legs, excellent top lines and improved mammaries. We have used Asteroid on several does of differing quality always obtaining the same consistent results. Asteroid received his +B status strictly from his daughters within our herd earning their milk and fat stars. Many of his daugthers do not milk heavily as yearlings, but the butterfat is high enough to give them their *M status, then as second freshening two year olds they really start putting milk into the bucket. Many of them peak between 8 and 10 pounds as second fresheners. Asteroid's daugthers are fairly slow to mature, coming into full bloom as older animals. We feel this is an ideal quality, as his daughters have continued to have excellent feet and legs well into later life. |
