So Alone

I walk through the crowd
Desolate and lost in the world
Before me a bench appears
I slowly fall onto its hardness
People move all around me
I watch them blankly
If I am alone
Why do you expect me to care?
I am so alone
Don’t you see what’s happening?
Alone . . . Lonely
I am not right
Something’s not right
I stand against the wall
Watching the party before me
I am never asked to dance
I am never offered a drink
I slowly lean back on the wall
I wish it will swallow me whole
But it doesn’t
If I am alone
Why do you expect me to care?
I am so alone
Don’t you see what’s happening?
Alone . . . Lonely
I am not right
Something’s not right
I lie listless on my bed
Hoping someone will join me
But empty are the floor boards
Lacking the footsteps I listen for
I slowly close my eyes
And wish and hope for a dream
Alone . . . Lonely
I am not right
Something’s not right
But nobody cares
