SABANG AND LAS LAGUNAS

When I first heard and read about Sabang, I thought it would be something like Puerto Galera . I expected a small fishing village with hotels and a few roads with jeepneys and trikes. Well, there is only really 1 road in Sabang ... the one from Puerto Galera and it is paved for about 1/8 of a mile from the beach up to the foot of the hill. There are many footpaths and sidewalks running parallel to the beach that connect the eastern and western parts of Sabang with the main road, so don't expect any taxis or trikes to take you anywhere. Once you are in Sabang, travel is by foot only. Now this is not really a problem because the distance from the western part of Big La Laguna to the eastern part of Sabang is under a mile.

If you're traveling alone:
We suggest that you stay in Sabang to be close to the night life and restaurants. If you have a tendency to over indulge, then the walk to the La Lagunas may be difficult to navigate at night time. But to us, it seems a little silly to have an ocean front hotel where you cannot swim in the water.
If you're rich (and traveling alone), then Atlantis seems to be the nicest of all the hotels in Sabang. Even though it doesn't directly face the ocean, it is less than a hundred feet to the beach.
Sabang Inn vs. Villa Sabang. The pool at Villa Sabang is nicer than the one at Sabang Inn, but both are very small and used mostly for diving lessons. Villa Sabang does have a bar including pool tables whereas the Sabang Inn only has a small bar that hardly anyone uses. But since they are only 100 feet apart, you can walk over to Villa Sabang in 30 seconds. The rooms are about the same, so it would seem that Sabang Inn be the better deal because of the cheaper rates. Also, the upper rooms at Sabang Inn are reached by lots of stair climbing.
If your a beach bum:
Small La Laguna vs. Big La Laguna. We suggest that you stay at Big La Laguna. We met a long time resident of Sabang from Canada who said that he would never swim at Sabang because of the pollution and he was wary of the water in Small La Laguna. He did all his swimming at Big La Laguna. Also, the beach in Big La Laguna is twice as nice as Small La Laguna and the walk to Sabang is only 5 minutes longer to "downtown" Sabang.
If you're rich (and a beach bum) stay at the Big La Laguna Beach Club.
We really liked the rooms at El Oro and Millers Corner where your front door opened right out onto the beach. There's plenty of bars and restaurants at Small and Big La Laguna. Snorkeling equipment is cheap to rent and some of the nicest coral formations are to be found in Big La Laguna. We liked Millers Corner because it had AC and was a whole lot cheaper than La Laguna Beach Club. By the way, Miller's Corner is just west of Fernando's Resort.
If you're traveling with a ton of luggage:
The El Galleon Hotel has a pier where the banka's can drop you off without getting all feet wet. But you have to haul your stuff up quite a few stairs.
