A school pancake race has been called off because organisers can't afford to insure the event against injuries.
In 2003 it only cost £75 to insure, but costs rose to £280 for this year's Shrove Tuesday event, which organiser Derek Godfrey-Brown can't afford.
The race has taken place in the centre of Okehampton, Devon, since 1995, attended by the local primary school. But fears of being sued by parents means it can't go ahead.
Mr Godfrey-Brown was "extremely disappointed." He was told he would need 25 marshals to watch over the 75 metre course in the town Centre.
64-year-old Mr Godfrey-Brown, who pays for the event himself, said: "It was affordable last year, but there is only so much you can do on your own."
