Chapter Six

Recording lasted about two hours, but they got the song down.  Patty pressed the button that patched her voice through into the guys headphones.  Great job.  I cant believe we got the entire song down in only two hours.  She flashed a huge smile at them.

D had been sitting quietly through the entire process, just staring.  I cant believe its them, she would mumble from time to time.

Patty laughed.  So, are you guys ready to break for a while?

Joey nodded.  Hell yeah.  Im hungry already.

Justin rolled his eyes.  When arent you hungry?

The group laughed, and D and Patty looked at each other, amused.
These guys are too much, Patty thought, looking at JC.  He stopped teasing Joey long enough to throw her another one of his award winning smiles.  Patty blushed and turned back to D.

Its nearly noon.  Do you want to go home and grab some lunch?  Patty asked.

D nodded.  I didnt eat breakfast; Im hungry.  Lets get out of here.

They stood up as the guys filed out into the hallway.

Ill be out in just a second, Patty said as D walked outside to shake hands and talk with the boys of *Nsync for a little while.

*~*~*

The five guys were just standing there outside the door to the studio when D stepped out.

Patty said shed be right out, she announced.

They all nodded.  Chris bee lined towards her.  He smiled at her but didnt say anything.  D furrowed her brow, but smiled back.
Hes even cuter in person, she thought.

Hi.  Youre D, right?  Chris asked.

D nodded.  Yup.  Thats me.

Chris stuck his hand out.  Im Chris Kirkpatrick.  She put her hand into his and smiled.  Wanna go grab something to eat or some coffee or something?  He asked, biting his lip in anticipation.
Please say yes, please say yes, he thought.

D pretended to think it over.  Sure, she said after a moment, just let me tell Patty where Im going.

Patty was on the phone when D opened the door.  She hung up and started gathering up her purse and paperwork. She had a huge, shit eating grin on her face.

D stepped inside and closed the door.  Eeek! she squealed.  Patty looked at her wide eyed and confused.  Chris invited me out for lunch!

Patty laughed.  Oh my God!  That is too cool!

D nodded her head furiously.  It sure is.  So, Ill meet you at the house later.  What time do we have to be back?

Patty glanced at the wall clock.  It was 11:45.  She checked her agenda.  I have Backstreet Boys scheduled for 2:00, so I guess coming back around 1:45 is good.

Okay, then.  Will you be at the house later?

Patty nodded.  Of course.  Where else will I be?

D grinned.  Well, just to tell you, someone is waiting out here, all by his lonesome

Patty rolled her eyes.  Im going, Im going.  Oh, and D?  Dont do anything I wouldnt do, Patty said with a wink.

D chuckled.  That doesnt leave much out, she retorted, and left before Patty could respond, shutting the door softly.  Patty laughed softly and hummed as she gathered up her papers and checked her lipstick in a small hand mirror.  When she heard the door open again, she yelled, Damn it, D, Im going!  When she heard a small gasp, she turned around.  Oh my God Im sorry!  I thought you were D.

JC laughed.  Thats okay.  I know Im intruding, but I just wanted to make sure you were okay.  He raised his eyebrows expectantly.

Yeah, Im good.  Just heading that way, actually, Patty sputtered, her face burning.  She grabbed her purse and files and walked to the door and out into the deserted hallway.  Patty looked around. Where is everybody?  She asked.

They all took off to each lunch, I suppose, JC said.

I guess thats what people do on their lunch breaks, Patty said with a laugh.

JC laughed with her.  His smile quickly faded, however, when he saw the Backstreet Boys heading down the hall towards them.
