~Innocent pairing at work~
I suppose BakuShizu would what others termed minor pairings...
No fanlistings/fansites in sight, occasionally seen in fanfics. From my
response, this pairing is very much like what people think of them (esp.
Shizuka) - supporter of them or not, it is very hard to dislike them. (...
except fangirls that have insisted Bakura is THEIR boy... ^_^;)
Beyond basic popularity, CAN they click? This issue arises partially becuase it
seems like Shizuka-chan love (as in relationship) has never crossed her mind.
Evidences abound in the Anime; look at her reactions towards Otogi and Honda -
she is touched / puzzled / surprised (depending on situation) - almost every
emotion except any "he likes me?" realizations. Compare that with Anzu & Mai;
the LACK OF REALIZATION is profound for Shizuka-chan's case, especially since
we can clearly see her kind side, and her ability to get concerned with
Oni-chan and everybody else in general.
Don't you think she's still a child?
Probably because most of her childhood was spent in and out of hospital,
Shizuka-chan doesn't seem to mature alot yet - and she'll probably be 15 soon,
and she doesn't look like a teenager. See her way of dressing, way of relating
to others, and dependency on big brother... Well, children stuck in hospitals
doesn't grow up in social aspects.
Which leads to "Why Bakura?". Other than likeness of kind, innocent character
of the two, he would probably be one that can give her ample of time to sort
out all her thoughts. Or you can say, Bakura himself probably don't progress
into relationship in great speed too ^_^; Also, I believe instintively
Bakura-kun knows there won't be an answer if he pushes for it.
Despite of, or maybe BECAUSE of her innocence, Shizuka can be awfully
foreright. Note Noa's Saga where Honda turned into a monkey : Among all the
people there she knows Honda for the shortest time, yet she is the one who
shows feels the most empathy towards him. While others are almost dumbfounded
in disappointment when they though they couldn't save him. Having a terrific
ability to grasp another person's feeling (her concern for Isis), she also
easily reciprocate care in others. Read : she easily loves people who loves
her, once she figured it out.
On the other side, will Bakura needs her?
My opinion is definitely. He lives alone, has no friends for much of his life,
and has little care from people above his age. While he now find some comfort
from friendship, I feel that's not on the level where he can get completely
satisfised. He need a special someone. Someone who can bond with him in
a way that she won't with others.
Bakura wasn't cared by his parents, and one very important person has already
left him prematurely. This boy needs to feel being appreciated and loved,
because he has experienced so much uncertainty in life. He needs some kind of
assurance. And Shizuka is awfully foreright in telling people that she cares.
Perfect world?
Not exactly but close I think? They are a sweet couple, very easygoing and
forgiving to each other. Bakura certainly knows how to have fun (seen from love
of numerous games), and Shizuka-chan is usually enthusiastic to follow the fun,
as from anime. One problem - from the rate they go it looks this two won't have
the first kiss in another three years....
The reason why not much people mention BakuShizu might be... lack of drama, in
love life and life in general. But hey, who really wants to be Jack & Rose if
you can live blissfully for life together?
