BESSIE (HARVEY) HAINS
Bessie Harvey was born August 3, 1902 in Marshall, MO. She was one of six children born to Henry Wells Harvey and Laura Vardeman. Members of the Harvey family first settled in Saline County in 1835, coming from Virginia. The Harvey's were primarily farmers and attorneys. Bessie Harvey received her education in Saline County, MO. After completing her schooling she moved to Kansas City, MO to attend business college. While working in Kansas City she met and married John O. Eylar. In 1927 they had a son.
Shortly after his birth they were divorced and Bessie and her sone moved back to Saline County to be near her family. On August 8, 1936 Bessie was married to Curtis G. Hains. This was the beginning of their lives as a military family and took them all over the United States. Bessie and
sone always followed Curtis to each assignment. Bessie Harvey Hains was a quiet woman, always active in her church and a good military wife. After Curtis' retirement they moved back to Marshall, MO and she lived there until her death April 13, 1985. She is buried in ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, MO.
