Trips in South Africa We spent maybe a week or two in South Africa on a vacation. We drove from Gaborone, Botswana, to Cape Town. We stayed at a tip of a peninsula, in a really nice hotel called The British hotel or something like that. It was a very cute colorful apartment that could accomodate a dozen really. There were beds everywhere, about two beds per room, and it was so comfy and lodge-like. From Cape Town downtown, we had to take a train down to Fishoek and Simonstown. There was ocean on either side, beaches with colorful cabins, and the smell of cold, salt ocean. The sight of the table mountains, the crowded markets, the water front, the aquarium...and the food! We also got to the beach, not to swim, because in August, it's frigid cold, but to admire the pinguins that stayed there, for a vacation I suppose. Across the water is Antartica...so really,it was a summer holiday for them. Well, it was my first time trying to speak english really because there was this exchange student from England staying with us (Adam), and so it was a bit difficult being serious...But we took a nice ride. On the way back, we drove by South African wine country, by Elizabethtown, then Johannesburg and back to Gaborone. Another vacation we took was in Sparkling Waters, a small cute resort in the middle of nowhere, with a mini golf course, a trampoline, tennis courts, and a swimming pool. It's a nice place to wind down, have fun with the staff, eat great food, and get some rest.

But the most surprising part of our vaction in South Africa was our trip to Sun City. It's the biggest amusement park in the area, in the same range as Disneyland. But I must admit it is much better because it is in the middle of nowhere, has none of those singing puppets, or so many colorful rides. The theme in Sun City is Africa. Huge elephants ornates the gates leading to the hotel, rivers are flowing inside the forest, crocodile farms can be visited, and there is evena small ocean, wit sand and waves and life guards...so much fun. And all you need was a swimming suit, food, a sunscreen and energy! For those with money to spend, Sun city is also the African Las Vegas. Because gambling seemed to have been banned in the country, Sun City was the refugefor slots machines, poker players, and other gamblers. Another park on the theme of the mines is Goldreef City. It is less extravagant than Sun City but has all the major rides you can wish for. South Africa also have many parks and conservation areas. One park we stayed at for a while is not far from the Botswana border. We stayed at the Madikwe Lodge, which is like a giant tree-house in the middle of the jungle. We would wake up early and leave the lodge before sunrise to go track the animals and enjoy the giraffes, elephants, wide rhinoceros, reinbuks, impalas, and lions, leopards, hyenas, etc... |
