My Unloved Love

de Klara Losonczy

I believe there isn’t a more difficult task than describing the person one likes, because love is by excellence a metaphysical phenomenon and therefore impossible to immortalise in material shapes such as words or sounds. However, humans have been built to love and by consequence, to share their feelings with others, in one way or another. So here I am, sharing my unloved love with you.

Why love? Because I have never felt such strange and contradictory sensations in my entire life. Every time I look at his perfectly black, almost shining blue hair I remember the birth of the universe and with every new glance into his crescent shaped, abyssal, dark eyes I descend deeper and deeper into his enigmatic soul, paradoxically discovering mine. His tall, clumsy appearance, his eternally shy gestures and his constant paleness still fascinate me like the first time I saw him, because he seems to never stop surprising me. I admit that generally speaking few people would consider him a handsome boy, but I still love him, despite his faults and his frequent silly acts. In fact, I love his faults, his mistakes, his weaknesses and his fears, because they are part of his being and help me understand him better.

Why unloved? Because, despite the four years we have known each other, he is still a mystery for me, a spirit so similar to mine, and yet so different, keeping inside him all the secrets of an ancient and mystical culture, irremediably different from mine. It seems like the more I get to know him, the less I understand his oriental, paradox-like essence. And then, there is, of course, the fact that I have never touched his hand or tasted his lips, that I have never ever stood in front of him.

In conclusion, love is the most complex feeling that has ever shaken a human’s heart and therefore it can be neither described, nor completely understood. Consequently, I will always hope that my unloved love will someday metamorphose into a loved one.
