Why does the vast majority of the population of the planet Earth believe in some kind of higher power?  Why is it that certain practices are common to billions of people worldwide?  Sure, one can say that most people practice what their forefathers practiced, but such an answer is simplistic in two ways.  First, it ignores the question: why did the forefathers practice religion to begin with? and second, it assumes that religion is entirely meaningless to most people and is  practiced largely as empty ritual.

Islam is one of the world’s greatest religions, second in number of adherents only to Christianity.  Islam is a global phenomenon, found in every corner of the world.  It is a highly visible religion, especially in the modern world.  What do Islam’s adherents believe in?  Why is it the world’s fastest growing religion?  What makes Islam “tick”?  The popular conception of Islam is largely limited to Middle Eastern politics, which has very little to do with Islam as a religion, or Muslims as a people.  I invite you to find out what Islam is really all about.  I have chosen and/or adapted articles that I hope will be understandable for everyone, in an attempt to show people, as Muslims, what our religion is and what we stand for.
