| MDP - 303 A,B Machine Design II (3rd year Mechanical Design & Prod. Dept.) Academic Year 2002/2003 (First and Second Term)
The course covers the topics concerning the design process, design theory and methodologies, design of springs (Helical, and leaf), design of shafts, design of gears (spur, helical, and bevel), design of Belts, chains, and wire ropes, design of clutches and brakes. Simultaneously the problems of designing anti-friction ball and roller bearings, and journal bearings are also studied. Students are asked to submit group projects of designing complete machines or systems using the studied elements. Group presentations of projects, oral and written exams as well as individual progress marks are taken into consideration for the course grading.
Project 1: each group is required to submit a wooden board size (1000x70 mm), on which fixed a disassembled mechanical system, to be showed in the Machine Design Lab., and a constructional drawing of the selected system. (Duration 4 weeks) Project 2: Design of a Single-Stage, 4 speeds Gearbox. It is used as a reduction unit in a milling machine. The transmitted power is 25 KW. The input velocity is 1500 RPM, and the output velocities are as follows (500, 600, 700, and 800) RPM. Check one possible configuration of the Gearbox (Download.PDF file). (Duration 5 weeks)
