Reverse Engineering (Scanning, Solid Modeling, and CAM) Students: 1) Mohamed Abdel-Hakim 2) Mohamed Magdy Abstract Reverse Engineering process constitutes mainly of three stages. The first stage is the data capturing. The second stage is the fitting of this cloud of points in order to get the surface, then constructing the solid modeling. The third stage is the CNC code generation for the manufacturing of the reverse engineered part. This project is concerned with the first and the third stage. Data capturing process can be done using several ways. On of the available way is the 3D laser scanning. 3D laser scanning is a very fast way for capturing the cloud of points representing the surface. It also do the job with an acceptable range of accuracy. Integration between this project and the other one in Reverse Engineering is a must to accomplish the overall process. Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) is applied for producing the part. IDEAS-SDRC program is used as a CAD/CAM tool for this project. Co-supervision with: Prof. Dr. Sayed M. Metwalli, Professor and Chairman of Mechanical Design and Production Dept.
