Nokia 6220 - The Road to Shares

I think 6220 is the first Nokia Series 40 model that with open infrared protocol to enable "Quick Share" like SonyEricsson!

As far as I know, there are only 2 Series 40 models that with with "Quick Share" function, i.e. Nokia 3200 and 6220.

But the meaning of 6220 is more important, because when 6220 was first released with firmware version V3.07, the "Quick Share" function is not enabled. Until the recent release of firmware V4.07, after upgrade, the "Quick Share" is enable. Does it means that Nokia will open the road to share for other models as well?

What is "Quick Share"?

With "Quick Share", you don't need any middle-ware such as Logomanager or Mobile Media Browser that to transfer photo, ringtone and even Java games, to and from the mobile phone. Before 6220, if you want to input ringtone from your PC to your Nokia phone, you need a middle-ware like Logomanager. Now, you can send directly without any more software.

In addition, you can transfer ringtone and photo to and from other phones, even not the same brand. For example from Nokia to Sony Ericsson.

Now, I find my old Siemens 6688i very useful, because I can store all my ringtone and photo into the MMC card and use the 6688i as a "portable middle-ware" to transfer ringtone and photo to my Nokia and SonyEricsson phones.

With the "Quick Share", you can now transfer ringtone and picture between Nokia <-> SonyEricsson <-> Siemens, as long as they have built-in Infrared.

6220 is a very good designed phone for executives. It looks good and the 16-channel polyphonic ringtone is loud and clear too. But, the speaker of this phone is just like 7210/6610 and 7250/7250i, the sound of the speaker is rather low, and also the sound quality is very poor (sounds like a broken speaker).

I wonder why Nokia changed the good old speaker they used since 5110. The old speaker (on the right) produces good and quality sound. But the new speaker (on the left) since 7210 is rubbish, the sound is low and you can hardly listen to what people are saying in the street!

Photo Example

The Photo taken by 6220 is better than expected. The result is far better than T610. With 10K pixels, the result is almost as good as the 30K pixels Motorola E365.
