Fall 2000-Colombia
A couple of weeks before our fall tour was to begin, we received word that our fall tour would not take us to Haiti, as had been told us previously, but Colombia.  I was pretty excited. After all, I had been to South America before (see Fall 1999), and really grown to love it.  I had absolutely no idea just how much I would learn from Colombia.
If you read the news at all, you probably know that Colombia is a very troubled nation which has been fighting a terrible civil war (as if war is ever
not terrible) for many years.  It was our huge privilege to minister about 80% of our time in Colombia in military settings-to many of the soldiers involved in this war.

One day in particular, our director wanted to see if he could get us on a helicopter ride on one of the special forces bases.  Instead we ended up doing a quick set-up and concert inside one of the helicopter hangars.  The concert was dedicated to a group of soldiers who had been killed a month before in a guerilla ambush.  It was so awesome to be able to share the hope and peace of Christ with these people whose futures are so uncertain.
