"Faith" was rescued from the Sale Barn in Paris, Tn on Nov, 7, 2001 by Lisa Godar of Murray Ky.  She had been shipped from Texas to Tennessee in a trailer with aproximately 50 other donkeys.

Extremely skinny, shaggy, wormy & very pregnant, Lisa took a chance & took her home along with several other smaller Donkeys.

After what we can only imagine to have been a lifetime of abuse & mishandling the Jennet was filled with fear of all humans.
After months of care, the jennet was healthy, (Thanks Dr. Neal!) but Lisa had made little progress in gaining the Jennet's trust.  Fear has the potential for becoming dangerous for both Lisa & the Jennet.  With her pregnancy advancing rapidily I made a proposal that Lisa & I trade donkeys.  I had a mini spotted jack who was perfect for Lisa so we swapped.

It turned out to be a match made in Heaven for everybody..

The first thing I did was change her name.

Her Coggins papers from Texas identified her as "Dumbo".  Very sad considering either starvation or the practice of "Twisting Down" her ears as a means of control had broken down the cartilige in her ears & she is unable to hold them upright for prolonged periods of time.  At rest they flop sadly to the sides of her head..

This terrified Jennet badly needed a chance at a new life, so I re-named her "Leap of Faith".

On 3/10/02 our faith was rewarded with a big healthy spotted baby Jennet.  Best of all, I was able to imprint the baby & assure her a lifetime of human kinship instead of fear.
