| Workdays Workdays begin at 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the day (or days) you are scheduled to work.Crew Leader, Site Host or Gopher volunteers please be at the site at 8:15 a.m. Our workday ends approximately 4:30 p.m. Here are some tips and requests, directly from the Habitat for Humanity manual: Tools If you have access to any of the following tools, please bring them along. Make sure to label your tools so you bring the right ones home at the end of the day! � Hammer � Screwdrivers � Tape measure � Utility knife (with sharp blades) � Pencil � Cloth or leather nail apron If you have a pick-up truck and are willing to use it to transport tools and materials to and from the Habitat warehouse, please bring it along and inform the Site Supervisor prior to your scheduled workday so he or she can plan accordingly. Clothing The following personal items are also recommended: � Eyewear (sunglasses, goggles, safety glasses) to protect yourself from dirt, sawdust, etc. Habitat will have some goggles, but not enough to go around. � Make sure you wear clothes that you will not mind staining or tearing. Dress in layers so that you can easily adjust for different temperatures and working both indoors and outside. � Workboots or sneakers (Open-toed shoes are not permitted on the site) � A hat and sunscreen if you will be doing any work outdoors � Raingear � we will work rain or shine! � Work gloves if you have them Health Considerations If you have not recently had a tetanus shot, it is recommended that you get one prior to your workday adults need a booster every ten years. Let the Site Host know if you have a medical condition of which they should be aware (such as specific allergies, asthma, heart problems, etc.). A first aid kit will be present on site and a telephone will be available for emergency use. On-Site Facilities and Safety Drinking water and restroom facilities will be provided on site. Lunch will be provided for the day you will be working. Beverages will be on site with Coolers and ice but you may bring your own beverages if you have a preference. Children under the age of 13 are not allowed on the work site for safety reasons. The only exceptions to this rule are groups with children that are serving meals to construction volunteers. Teenagers aged 13-15 must have one-to-one supervision from their parent or an adult friend. In case of an emergency, the Habitat for Humanity office can be reached at 612-331-4090. You can then ask that the message be forwarded to the work site by calling the site supervisor on his cell phone. |
