| January 1, 1999 - Captain Fantasy puts his mask on the line for a shot at Miguel Guererro's N.W.A. Junior Heavyweight Championship of the World. Fantasy wins, keeps his mask and wins the title for the 3rd time! Later that same day, Miguel would win the title back and begin his 7th reign. A rather curious event also took place on this day. A new masked wrestler appeared in the VGWA calling himself "The Uncanny"... rumors abounded that The Uncanny was none other than Mike-Pac in disguise. Adding fuel to this fire, The Uncanny aligned himself with the Mike World Order. January 16, 1999 - After losing the N.W.A. Junior Heavyweight Title to Marty Janetty, Captain Fantasy, embarrased, puts his mask on the line to get a rematch. If Fantasy wins, he regains the belt, but if he loses, he will be disgraced and have to remove his mask... forever! The winner and Champion for the 5th time - Captain Fantasy! January 17, 1999 - Pablo LaLoco (son of VGWA legend Paco LaLoco) wins the N.W.A Junior Heavyweight Championship when he hits Captain Fantasy with a loaded boot. Fantasy calls shenanigans and demands a rematch. LaLoco says he'll do it, but only on one condition - Captain Fantasy must put his pride, his honor and the traditions of Lucha Libre on the line. The match will be Title vs. Mask! After a hard fought match, Captain Fantasy defeated Pablo LaLoco, kept his mask and began his 6th title reign. January 23, 1999 - Black Scorpion was a dominant Hungarian Champion. It seemed that no one could ever beat him. Then from out of a crowd, a voice was heard. One man, clad in a simple white cotton shirt, jeans dusty from long hours spent traveling, and a headband on his brow. His name was Dave Ken, and he meant business. Dave didn't win the title that night, but he proved himself to be a valiant warrior, and fans in attendance went home to tell their friends and family about this brave man. A legend sprang up around him, and a groundswell of support carried him on it's back. His career soared as though it was carried aloft on the wings of an eagle. January 24, 1999 - "The Gambler" Kenny Reno was a brash young upstart who had ended the 7th Junior Heavyweight Championship reign of Captain Fantasy. It only seemed right that Cap put his mask, and the proud heritage of Lucha Libre on the line for a title shot. And as usual, Captain Fantasy walked out with his mask, pride and title securely fastened about his person. That very same day, Bill "Hitman" Hart challenged Hungarian Champion The Black Scorpion. Scorp had Hart in a headlock, and just as it seemed Hart was about to pass out, the bell rang and the match was declared a time-limit draw. Hart asked for a rematch and he got it! It ended 1-2-3 in the middle of the ring with Black Scorpion pinning Bill Hart and retaining his title! January 24 continued to be an awesome day for wrestling fans! Once again, Marty Janetty had bested Captain Fantasy in combat and taken home the Jr. Heavyweight Title. Once again, Fantasy put his mask on the line. Once again, Fantasy won. January 31, 1999 - Kenny Reno won the Jr. Heavyweight Title from Captain Fantasy. Fantasy put his mask on the line, but this time did not put the pride, honor and heritage of Lucha Libre up for grabs. Fantasy won the match in 3 minutes, 3 seconds. Took home the belt. Kept his mask. February 7, 1999 - After striking The Black Scorpion with a mannequin head molded to look like "Kingpin" Billy LaLonde, Bill Snow pinned Scorpion and won the Hungarian Commonwealth People's Heavyweight Championship of the World! On that very same day, Captain Fantasy lost the Jr. Heavyweight Title to Pablo LaLoco... once again, the mask was put on the line in exchange for a title shot and once again, Captain Fantasy walked away the victor and an eleven time champ. Later that evening, Captain Fantasy again lost the title to his arch rival, Marty Janetty. As usual, the mask went on the line... but this time, something strange happened. This time, Janetty won! Fantasy had to unmask! Another rematch was signed, and this time, "Fantastic" Juan Sanchez (formerly known as Captain Fantasy) walked away with the title! He had redeemed himself, but would forever bear the shame of being unmasked by Marty Janetty. |
