2006 VGWA AWARDS!!!

It's time for the 2006 VGWA Awards!  The voted have been counted, and we are here with the results...

(1) First of, the award for Valet/Manager/Bodyguard.  The nominees included Ghastly Carol, Matt Welz, the late Frank Stonewall, Corncobucus, Patty Underwear and Queen B.  And the winner is.. Corncobbucus!  Is he a man dressed as a giant cob of corn, or a cob of corn mutated into a man?  Either way, he was instrumental in Terry Menard's two Hungarian Title reigns this year.

(2) Next up, Match of the Year.  It was really no contest - the greatest series of matches in the year 2006 had to be the Best-Man-of-Seven Series between "Widowmaker" Mike Todd and "Polish Prince" Chad Derdowski.  Any one of these seven matches could've won this award.  No other matches in this category even got a single vote.

(3) Now, let's take a moment to pause and reflect.  The 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded to Frank Stonewall, who died just a few months ago.

(4) The Most Hated Wrestler of the Year?  In a landslide victory, Monte Altazzar walks away with that prize.  Talented though he may be, the fans simply do not like this man's brash and cocky attitude.  He has no respect for the rules, no respect for the referees and has repeatedly shown that he does not even respect the law, as he has recently taken to burning wrestlers faces.

(5) On the flipside, The Most Popular Wrestler of the Year was a tight race, as so many great men had been nominated.  But the man who gets the award this year?  None other than VGWA legend "Polish Prince" Chad Derdowski.  He had two Hungarian Title reigns, a Globally Recognized Title reign, and was very instrumental to the success of the VGWA in 2006.  The fans still turn out in droves for this great wrestler... asses in seats?  He puts 'em there?  Merchandise sales?  Tops the charts.  But perhaps it is his willingness to put other wrestlers over that has made him so beloved... or perhaps the fact that he is in charge of the website.

(6) Feud of the Year.  There were many great feuds this year, but the one that heated up the VGWA like a Dutch Oven was Monte Altazzar vs. Carl Stonewall.  These men battled from pillar to post, with Carl always coming out on top.  In fact, it was Carl's dominance that led Monte to begin using fire against his opponents.  It was the use of this dreadful weapon which allowed Monte to finally score a pinfall on Carl and send him to the hospital.  If Carl is able to return to the ring, we may just see this feud continue well into 2007.

(7) The People's Champ award goes to the wrestler who is deemed the most inspirational.  The man who, title or no title, is an example of good sportsmanship.  A man who triumphs over adversity.  A man who inspires others to do the same.  That man, in 2006, is known as Scissorwolf.

(8) And of course, Wrestler of the Year.  A lot of factors go into this award.  Win/Loss record ... who you've beaten ... title reigns ...

This years winner had three Hungarian Title reigns in 2006.  He was the Anti-Champion, and simultaneously held the Hungarian Title, which led to the Anti-Title being legitimized as the Globally Recognized Title.  This man, while Anti-Champion, won the first ever BattleBowl, defeated then Hungarian Champion Monte Altazzar.  His record speaks for itself - no other wrestler has won all the accolades that this man has won in 2006.  This man, the VGWA Wrestler of the Year 2006, can only be "Kentucky" Jon Derby.

Congratulations to Jon Derby, and to all of the winners!
