Dear Sir,
Buddhism is an ancient philosophy of life which aims at happiness. Buddhism is symbolised by the orange colour, which is propably a way to communicate to large masses what Buddhism is about: it is a question of making perceptions about life. Such undisturbed perceptions are the base of objectivity and allow one to guide one's life wisely, making one so happier.
The moral side of Buddhism is both a tool and a goal: by avoiding needless conflicts one arrives at a more harmonical social life, getting so more sensitive in one's perceptions which means increased wisdom. Compassion is also a goal in many ways: being natural to humans (who are pack animals by their nature) it brings increased happiness to the individual and well functioning social relationships. Taking compassion or human values as a starting point one arrives at the holistically thinking most wise way to arrange the whole when watched from the point of view of experience of life. It is a huge allegiancy for a better life, the strongest and wisest possible option.
Like science, Buddhism says nothing about the existence or nonexistence of God. So Buddhism ought to fit well together with Christianity.
Yours sincerely, Hannele Tervola
