My view on the freedom of the press
Dear Sir,
Instead of the complete freedom of the press, it is important that whoever affects the press, be it the journalists themselves or any other group, does so to advance the good of the nation and the universal values of humanity, justice, holistic responsibility and truth, which are also economically wise choises (See my book Power Politics Leads To Excellent Moral for that). This is easiest if the press is relatively free but under legal obligations to fill its task in a responsible way, while remembering that people are social beings as well as thinking ones, so the social messages sent ought to encourage good moral (incl. some work ethics) and the fact content allow and encourage to real objectivity which does not take sides at all - which does not mean not having any opinions: it means being able to discuss one's opinions objectively even with those who have very different views and/or very different starting points.
Since some understand more than others, like the women about women's values, the press ought to fill its educative task too, letting the ones who understand best tell about their values instead of falling to prejudices. This example about women's values is important since all children are wanted to grow up to be healthy strong and intelligent adults who can run the society well when their time comes. The women's values used in the upbringiong of children keep up the base for those important things in the society. Pushing women down pushes those important value down too, which is harmful to the society. Much better would be to communicate and to teach the ground for women's values to the men too. That is easiest if women and other wise people are valued in the media.
Yours Sincerely, Hannele Tervola, Finland
