HLA's travel blog - 22 Dec 2006 to 5 Feb 2007 - Brisbane - Singapore - Dubai - Iran - Egypt - Dubai - Brisbane.

In Yazd, visited Amir Chagmir, Water Museum, Sahn ebn e ali Tomb, Malek-o-Toljar House (turned out to be a hotel), Atiq Mosque (which was another shimmering mosque inside), and Dowlat Abad residence, which had the highest wind badgir, at 33 metres, in the city,  but otherwise was OK,  although the garden around the residence was disappointing because it was winter.  The buildings and gardens of the same name nearby were being 'restored', which means the buildings and gardens had been completely gutted and only the structures were left standing pending 'restoration'.

Gave up on the local tourist guide and visited the Zoroastrian towers of silence, on the outskirts of the town, where the dead were laid out for vultures until the 1960s.   Climbed up the hill to look into one of the towers.  Returned to Jameh Mosque and visited the Bogheh-ye-Seyyed Rokn-o-Din (tomb), Alexander's Prison, Tomb of the 12 Imams (none of whom are buried there), and the Hosseinieh (which if I was at the right spot did not live up to expectations).

Returned to hotel for a cup of tea and short rest before setting off again to find Issatis.net in Kashani St.  Tomorrow intend to take a day trip by bus to  Abarkouh and back to look at a 4000 year old cyprus tree and a couple of other things and will either stay at the hotel for another night or catch a night train to Kirshan.
