My Dad (Harold G Crocker) served at Fort Slocum as a Military Policemen in the late 1940's, after enlisting in South Carolina and receiving his basic traing at Fort Jackson. He met my Mom at an USO dinner off base in New Rochelle, at the local Masonic Temple where she volunteered and cooked dinners for the troops. He went in to say thanks to the cook after a spagetti dinner one night, and met my mom, who was on a stool cooking spagetti. After that he went to see her at my grandfathers store and butcher shop at 413 Main St., and proceeded to date her, getting married at the Chapel on Fort Slocum. I hope that this brings you a little bit of Fort Slocum history, as I visited the fort many times as a child in the 50's and early 60's. I look forward to hearing from our Friends of Fort Slocum.
