Null and Void, Paid in
Full
I stand... naked.
I check to my right.
Nothing there.
On my left.
This space is also void.
Behind me.
Empty.
I stretch my head and
strain my eyes
to look above,
expecting, perhaps,
to see the familiar
constellations of
the night.
No such luck.
Something else odd here:
I can see my body
but nothing else.
There is no visible
light source.
As I look down, I can
see my feet
but not the ground upon
which I
stand.
I bend down to examine
the terrain
with my hands.
There is none.
But wait.
I feel pressure on the
soles of my
feet.
Still crouching, I lift
one sole, and replace it with my
palm.
In anticipation of the
solidness
I had felt with my foot,
I shift
my weight and fall to
the side.
From my awkward crouched
position,
my body involuntarily
straightens out
and stiffens as I fall
in what feels,
according to my
intestines, like a
circular motion with the
center
below my feet and the
circumference,
the path of my head.
