So here's the dish:
Basically, these bad Aussie boys are totally smokin'...I own all 3 of their albums, and they're all very mighty assed!  Of "Frogstomp", "Freakshow", or "Neon Ballroom", there's NOTHING bad on any of them!  They are all downright kickass.

Let's begin the story.  Back in 1994, when these lads were called "The Innocent Criminals", they entered the "Nomad Pick Me" Demo Competition, and they won!  Later that year, they were announced as the winners of the "Youthrock" competition.  Also, in 1994, they released the single "Tomorrow", which proved to be very successful.  The boys then continued to have success in Australia, their homeland, with singles like "Pure Massacre", "Israel's Son", and "Shade".  Another high point in 1994 for the boys was when they recorded the album "Frogstomp".  Later, in 1995, "Tomorrow" was relased to Canadian and US rock stations, where it was well received!  Also in 1995, "Frogstomp" was released to Canada and the US, where enormous sales proved their album to be a successful one.

In 1996, the boys toured with Red Hot Chili Peppers and Everclear, and they formed the "Surfin' Bird" Tour.  In 1997, Freakshow (Album no. 2....are you keeping track??) was released.  The Euro-tour for Freakshow began, and later on, the American tour.

In 1999, "Neon Ballroom" (album no. 3) was released, with its first success story, "Anthem for the Year 2000", which is a great song.  The band has recently enjoyed success with singles from that album such as "Ana's Song".

Once upon a time.....
In 1992,  vocalist (Michael) Raine Maidamet guitarist Mike Turner (a British expatriate)and the two formed the post-grunge band Our Lady Peace (OLP).  They later recruited bassist Chris Eacrett and jazz drummer Jeremy Taggart.  Signed to Relativity, OLP released "Naveed" in 1995 and toured Canada with Alanis Morissette.  Chris Eacrett was later replaced with a new bassist, Duncan Coutts.  Recorded with Duncan, the band released "Clumsy" in 1997.  A string of hits was to follow, beginning with "Superman's Dead", "Automatic Flowers", and the smash hits "4am" and "Clumsy".  In 1998, OLP began the "Summersault" tour.  The tour was originally launched in 1997 as a one-day festival in London, Ont. at the Western Fairgrounds.  Because the 1997 festival was so popular, the band decided to come back for another year, making the event bigger and stretching it across Canada.

In 1999,  OLP released their third album, "Happiness......Is Not A Fish That You Can Catch".  The first single "One Man Army" was released shortly after the band's stint at Woodstock 99 in Rome, NY.  It has so far enjoyed success in Canada, and some minor success in the US.  OLP recently released the next single from "Happiness", entitled "Is Anybody Home?", which is currently in the heavy rotation list at MuchMusic.

A Canadian tour has been announced, and the band is currently touring the States in promotion of their new album.  Canadian fans have much awaited the announcement of a Canadian tour, and finally, one has been scheduled.

one of the best unofficial band pages around, this page is maintained by a k's choice fanatic, and it's absolutely brilliant!!

(Sarah and Gert are brother and sister, in case you didn't clue in!!)
As a teenager, Gert had a band called "The Basement Plugs" and one day, Sarah asked him if she coulds ing with his band.  Essentially, progress went straight forward from there.  The band began by recording "Like The Way I Do", a melissa Ethridge tune, at a party.  That track eventually fell into the hands of a guy who worked at Double T (a record company) and he fell into synch with Sarah's awesome voice.  He offered her a solo contract.  She hesitated at first, because she really wanted to play with her brother, and was planning on turning it down because she didn't want to record with anyone but her brother.  So her

Lead Singer Sarah Bettens

bro finally told her, "Hey, if you turn this down, you're insane!!!" .  Sarah eventually decided to accept the contract, but after some heavy persuasion, she convinced Double T to sign her brother and his band as the rest of her band.  So, to recap, everyone now has a contract at Double T Records.  Originally, they called themselves "The Choice", but after recording their first album, changed the name to "K's Choice".
The band has recorded 3 albums in total.  The first album is called "The Great Subconscious Club".  I'd offer you a critique of the album, or my thoughts of the album, but i don't have it.  Moving on.  The second album is called "Paradise In Me", and the band flirted with popularity with the single "Not An Addict" which is the song that hooked me on this incredible sounding band.  "Paradise In Me" is an absolutely fabulous CD, I don't think there's a single bad song on the cd, it's an incredible listen.
The third cd, "Cocoon Crash" is also an amazing CD.  The first single the band released was "Everything For Free" which is a haunting tale of an little boy who's in a mental hospital.  Other noteable songs from this cd include "Quiet Little Place", "Now Is Mine", "Cocoon Crash", and "Believe".  However, every single song on the cd is quite noteable, because it's such a great listen.

So here's the dish on these fine, croonin' lads:

Ben Folds Five is actually a trio, contrary to the number in its name. One guy IS actually Ben Folds (the big ol' cutie on the left there!).  He's the piano player, and let me just say that he is a DAMN good piano player.  He has magical fingers, let me tell you, his fingers make some of the most beautiful music you've ever heard!!  This guitarless band goes against the "musical norm" and does it the right way!!  The band considers their influences to be Cole Porter and the Clash, equally.
4 albums are in tow for these cuties, and a new solo effort has been put forth from the magical Ben Folds.  The first album, simply called "Ben Folds Five", I don't have, so we'll move on.  The second album

My personal music God, Ben Folds.  What a cutie!

(which is entitled "Whatever and Ever, Amen") I DO have, and let me tell you, its one kickass disc.  The band enjoyed a "mainstream moment" with their smash hit "Brick" which was performed on Saturday Night Live early in January, 1998.  The third album released is entitled "Naked Baby Photos" which is a compilation CD of live and rare tracks.  It's groovy!  Quick to follow up one groovy release with another, the boys released "The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner".  Reinhold Messner is a name that drummer Darren Jessee and his friends used on their fake ID's to get into bars in their hometown.  Said Darren, "Reinhold Messner is the patron saint of underage drinking".  He also proved to be the poster cihld for an unbelievable record.  "Reinhold Messner" contains great tuneage, such as "Army", the first single, "Magic", the song that represents Darren's feelings regarding those close to him who have died, "Regrets", "Your Redneck past", and "Lullabye".
The vocals of Ben Folds Five range from Queen-esque harmonies on "Missing the War" to hard edge anger on "Song For The Dumped". These boys have every musical style at their fingertips, and are so versatile they can manage to play any style they want.

Now, my musical God, Ben Folds himself, has also put out a solo album, entitled "Fear Of Pop", which features a duet with Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner.  Due to outrageous prices on this disc in the cd store, I haven't yet managed to get my hands on it....but rest assured, some day, I will.  And then I'll have to let you ALL know what it's like.
