| Biography: In 1954 the great, dark king of all monsters first came to theaters. A protest to the A-bomb and war itself, Godzilla was a great symbol and the film, a force not to be taken lightly. As the years went by Godzilla's films were reeled out nearly every year, the 60's being his 'Golden Age'. Godzilla went from a movie monster villian and slowly became a hero to mankind and much more child friendly from the mid-60s through the 70s. Where as the 50s and 60s were his golden years, giving a forceful Godzilla and well made films, the 70's completely tarnished Godzilla's image and he's been struggling ever since. The king went into a ten year hibernation in 1975 and in 1984 returned, ignoring all the movies that happened before the new one except the original film. This made the new series (which was later called the 'Heisei Series' by fans) a direct sequel to the first movie and the with that, the new movies ran with the ball. Godzilla's character in these movies was an anti-her type of character, but by the last three movies he was becoming too nice, and Toho ended the series in 1995 before more damage could be done. Laid to rest for four years, Godzilla returned in 'Godzilla 2000' and 'Godzilla X Megagirus'. And even though the latter was a good movie, both films drowned at the box office. (Mostly due to little advertising on Toho's part.) Fearing the series would go into a permanent halt, Toho used a trump card and used the talents of the Gamera trilogy to create 'Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah'. Godzilla was saved, at the moment anyway, and now moving on after a brief scare and special movie Toho brings Godzilla to his next battle. 'Godzilla X MechaGodzilla'! GxMG's Godzilla: Godzilla is once again his famous 'anti-hero' character he was known for in the Heisei series and in 'Godzilla 2000' and 'Godzilla X Megagirus'. However, unlike Godzilla X Megagirus, Godzilla's character is mroe animalistic and less god-like, to show flesh and blood against full blown machine. Featuring the same basic body as his incarnation from 'Godzilla X Megagirus', Godzilla is now a black color with a smaller head and spines. This character of Godzilla brings yet another interpretation of the anti-hero. |
