Creatures of Middle-Earth in the Third Age of the Sun

Olog-hai

At the same time as he was breeding the better Orc, Sauron was seeking to improve the usefulness of Trolls. After all, big, dumb and fossilised by sunlight is not necessarily the thing you want in shock troops. The Olog-hai (Mor. "Troll Race") were the successful result of that experiment, though it's realisation took longer than the Uruk-hai. Olog's share their common kin's size and tough hide, but are smarter and do not fear the sun or turn to stone when it shines upon them. They are the most fearsome soldiers of Mordor, and few Men of Elves could stand in a shield wall when face with their might.
