Gold Wing Road Riders

Wichita Falls, TEXAS

Region H, Chapter Eagles

The day was cool and overcast April 17, 2004. The winds were very windy, the ride was fantastic. We enjoyed the day!

The Gold Wing Road Riders Association participants of Texas Chapter E. included Teresa and WD Middaugh on the yellow bumblebee, Al Withington and Charlotte rode the black beauty and Jackie and Wayne Hankinson on the blue moon, ready for a day of riding and having fun. First stop was Decatur’s breakfast buffet at Mattie’s on the square. Fifty or so war heroes from the World War II, Korea and Vietnam battles were eating at their monthly meeting breakfast. The hats told the places they served. We salute and give heartfelt appreciation to you, who are our heroes then and now.

The ride into the Fort Worth Stockyards was well-timed as we arrived to see the longhorn herd come down Exchange Avenue lead by the trail boss, the lead cow, the drag and flank riders on horseback. It was quite a thrill to see the wooden corrals and the old brick buildings and museums where it happened and still happens. I am sure that a real live cowpoke would tell me there is a difference between cows, bulls, steer and cattle. I say cowpoke because there may have been more female riders guiding the herd.

The red hat society ladies in red hats, red shoes and purple dresses were there and spoke with us about their many, many chapters through the world. They were having as much fun as we were. It was comical to watch the cow poke helping the older, plumper ladies to straddle the big bulls available for photo shoots.

Carolyn and Breeze Hoadley are the Texas District directors for Gold Wing Road Rider Association members in Texas and soon to be hosts for the Wing Ding in July. A picture of the twosome was taken beside their red Goldwing in front of the stockyards building.

Charlotte, Al, Wayne and Jackie arrive in Graham for dinner on time. Bob Cole and Gina, Karen and Larry Brown, JT and James Robert Palmer and Winona and Jimmy Atkinson rode in on their mounts about the same time. After a wonderful meal of Chicken Albanes and black forest dessert, we headed for home and Windthorst. Thanks for the memories.
