I notice too many things... and I have too much time to ponder them. So here we go. ^_^
This section was born amidst the other countless ideas in my head after someone questioned Trowa's nationality. The term "Latin origin" seemed to confuse a lot of people, and in my attempt to clear things up, I started getting into representative politics for the boys. This all has to do with the 5 major political powers in today's world(Japan, America, Europe, Middle East, Orient). Each pilot is a "representative" of his ethinicity, sort of speak. It just makes sense. ^_^
- Heero Yuy: Representative of the L1 Colony cluster. The first major colony ever in space belonged to Japan(there's a shocker). Japan sees itself as a very large world power second only to America. But for a smidge of National enthusiasm, Japan is first on the list of colonial development in Gundam Wing. This is where Heero comes in. He represents the LI cluster, thereby symbolizing Japan. Notice that Heero is also the most powerful of the pilots... *hint-hint*
- Duo Maxwell: Representative of the L2 Colony cluster. The second major colony in space belonged to America. However, perhaps by time the AC era rolls around, America is indeed second to Japan instead of vice-versa as it is today. Duo represents America within the 5 major world powers. Notice that Heero and Duo get along nicely together, though it depends on how you perceive it. Like the two pilots, America and Japan seem to be getting along quite nicely too. ^_^
- Trowa Barton: Representative of the L3 Colony cluster. The third major colony in space belongs to one of the European Nations, most likely Germany. But if you read Trowa's Episode Zero mangas, you'll notice that little Tro-Tro wasn't found on a colony, but on the Earth. Yes! Trowa is an Earthling! ^_^ See here for the Episode Zero proof. There are stars in the sky, which means he's on Earth. It's amazing to see how many people just assume he's from a colony like the other 4 pilots. Anyways, even though he was born on Earth, Trowa gets shipped off to the L3 colonies with his soldier buddies when he was young. And since he ends up piloting a Gundam made by the L3 colonies, he represents them. Behind Japan and America as world powers, Europe comes in a noble third just like Trowa.
- Quatre Winner: Representative of the L4 Colony cluster. The fourth major colony in space belongs to the widely spread nations of the Middle East(Arabia, Egypt, Africa, India, etc.). The nation we commonly associate with the Middle East is Arabia(well... more like Afganistan right now), and wouldn't you know it? Quatre is Arabian. ^_^ Arabia comes in fourth behind Japan, America, and Europe as a major world power. The oil industry we see on Earth today is replaced with the mining of natural space resources(asteriods, meteors) in the AC era, spearheaded by the Winner family. Notice that the natural resource business is an important political element in today's Middle East. The rest of the world relies on oil from that region, as do people rely on space resources in AC. Heh... and hence the reason why Quatre's so frickin' rich. His dad owns(owned) the whole darn resource business in space! Seeing the similatrities? And that's why Quatre represents the Middle East. ^_^ (I watch TLC too much...)
- Chang Wufei: Representative of the L5 Colony cluster. The fifth major colony in space belongs to China and the smaller orient countries. As of today, China is the fifth major world power behind japan, America, Europe, and the Middle East. Total Communism just doesn't work. -_- And though China is a little disorganized, it still has a lot of force behind it. Kinda like Wu... disorganized(mental-wise) but still pretty powerful. Hehe. ^^; Anyways, if you reference Wufei's Episode Zero, you'll find that the Long clan, his clan, was exiled to an old dilapidated colony because China's Earthen government was afraid of that clan's power. This somewhat reflects China's current state in todays world. A little dilapidated but still livable. Hong Kong itself would be an example. And eh... Communism sparks fear. Look how jittery the US is about Communists. Oke oke, enough of that. Wufei represents China and small bits of orient.... tada! -_-
